This sounds crazy but James Harden should be the 6th man...

I know this will never happen because it would piss off Harden, but in terms of theory, Jeremy Lin and Patrick Beverly actually makes a good backcourt and Harden in the starting lineup drains both of their abilities.

If Harden came off the bench like he did in OKC, we'd actually be deadly for 48 minutes of the game. He's proven he can be an awesome 6th man.

I know this will never happen though, but do you think it's a good idea in theory?

Uh, no. That thought crossed my mind for about 1 second before I realized it's a bad idea. Harden is a better playmaker and finisher(not to mention overall player) than Lin. I do think there's a strong case to be made for Lin closing games alongside Harden and being the primary ballhandler, but Harden's the better starting 2-guard.

it doesn't even have to be that. just let the sg be the sg. there was no complaining about sticky balls up in the air from Mchale last night.

At the time, people thought Copernicus was crazy for saying that the Earth revolved around the Sun. Years later, he was confirmed right.

In a perfect world, if your team has enough talent that a player of Harden's caliber could come of the bench, then by all means do it. This team barely has enough to make the playoffs, so no dice.

When your thread title says "this might sound crazy", than you probably shouldn't post it.

    I actually agree, because:

    • Lin looks to get his teammates going offensively more than Harden and it's good to have everyone get some shots early in the game, let the starters get comfortable right from the get go. This is especially advantageous as we have plenty of guys who can have big nights offensively (Howard, Parsons, T-Jones and Lin himself).

    • James can operate on his own better than anyone on the team. If he's going to make and take his own shots (which he often does), why not let him do it with the 2nd team who are really struggling offensively anyway?

We would of course have Harden on as at the end of the game as the first option finisher unless someone else has the hot hand.

Play them both. Team was about 7 or 8 games above .500 with both of them starting in the backcourt. This year, I believe the record is 12-4 or 12-6 or something like that. Either way, that's a high winning percentage. McHale and Sampson have too much of their egos tied up in the Beverley experiment. It won't change unless Morey tells them otherwise.

Beverley is fine in limited minutes. I wish McFail would sub in and out more often like he did last night. Granted, he was forced to due to injuries and foul trouble, but it worked out great at crucial points of the game. After Brooks came in for Bev, he hit a huge 3-pointer late in the 4th. And then D-Mo tipped the ball for a key offensive board with a little over a minute to go after he came in for T-Jones.
