That's right. We should at least wait until the regular season starts before we starting jumping to conclusion. As some of you may have heard, there is something called a regular season you know? And you usually that's when all the stats and numbers are kept about individual players. Plus, this is a new team. Give them some time to come together.

    BINGO!!!

We now have the personnel (key players) in place...we need a coach who knows how to take advantage of our offensive strengths.

    Lets see...I uhh.... DISAGREE!!!

JVG is a brilliant coach. He preaches fundamentals, he works tirelessly, and he knows how to run a team. Those are just a few of his many great traits. He is a great basketball-mind, and he IS the right coach for this team, or any other team in the NBA for that matter because he knows his stuff.

He will get the Rockets defense to be great, and having T-Mac and Yao on the same team, the offense will take care of itself with a little guidance for him. A defensive-minded coach is needed because look at the Mavericks, for example. They haven't worked on defense and have had multiple all-stars who could light any team up, but they have never succeeded in the playoffs because they couldn't play D.

If JVG doesn't guide this team to at least the second round this year, then I will be questioning his ability. But, until then, everyone should shut up. He's doing a better job than any of us would do.

I agree about Ewing, though. He was not a low-post guy, but more of a big man who could rebound and shoot the jumper. Yao can shoot also, so he's kind of okay for that, but we also need a guy who's going to develop Yao into a low-post monster, and I don't think Ewing is that coach.

MAN , will you pessimistic ever give it a rest?
This is the preseason, about 8-10 players are new, Many of them haven't played together. It is easy to pick up defence faster than offense. So relax, I 'll start worrying after the all-star break. Till then take some zoloft or something.

hey, just in case someone forgot. Zen Master is now available. Yao could join him in NY or Phil comes here to replace JVG.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Defense is what wins, it's not as flashy-sometimes it's not pretty at all, but it's what wins. Look to the Dallas Mavs if you want to see what offense will get you. Ideally, you want a balance between your offense and defense; but if you're going to more impressive on one end of the spectrum, it has to be defense.

What good will it do you if you can score 110 pts a game if you're going to give up 135 pts a game? To hell with inflated box scores and stats. If you can only muster up 85 pts a game, but you're holding off your opponents to just about 80, then what more do you want? No those arn't the Rockets stats for avg pts scored in a game or pts allowed, but you get the idea.

I would also argue that good defense is just as exciting, if not more exciting than a "Oh, there's the lane to the basket, why don't you take it while I watch and see what kind of dunk/lay-up you do." kind of game.

I hope VG stays for a good while. Who are you going to replace him with? Who out there can do a better job than what VG is doing right now? Don't give me this, "anybody can do a better job", give me names and reasons why they can do a better job. Having won a championship does not mean they can do a better job, just as not having won a championship does not mean that they could not do as good of a job. Larry Brown just won his first championship last season. Would anyone argue that he wasn't a good coach up untill he won it all? And how did he win it? altogether now.........DEFENSE!

Look you dick, stick something in your own mouth but don't put words in mine. I've been a Diehard Rockets fan since they were in San Diego and I will always root for the Rockets to win. Just because I find JVG annoying doesn't mean I want the Rockets to lose. Just because I thought firing Rudy was a stupid decision and hiring JVG only made things worse doesn't mean I want the Rockets to lose. I will root for the Rockets in spite of JVG but in the end JVG will be gone and I will still be a Rocket Fan.

So keep your stupid comments to yourself!

I still don't understand how you can root for the Rockets while hoping their current head coach fails. And because you find him annoying, chriskakes man, thats stupid. Explain this to me like the d******d I am and tell me how this can work. Because to me...if I can use an analogy....its like someone having stock in a company.. and they hate the president of this company they have stock in for whatever reason, because he is annoying or whatever, so they hope he struggles and is a failure, yet this someone with stock in the company still wants the company to prosper in the meantime. I don't see how that can work. You can't have stock in a company and hope the current president fails and still expect it and you to prosper. Just like you can't be a fan rooting for the Houston Rockets and hope JVG fails while still expecting them to be successful.

I was a big fan of the JVG hiring. But I am starting to have doubts about his abilities on the offensive side. He does seem clueless at times. He himself admitted it took him to long to realize Mo T's ability to spread the floor with his shooting. He also let Steve take last second shots ALL the time even though Cuttino was much better at those situations. Rudy T. realized that. I love his defensive coaching and the change he has brought, but let's hope he can fix his flaws.

After the Spurs game he said "We've just got to gain more and more discipline in our game, individually and collective, play more as a team on both ends." How about he changes his offensive game plan instead?

Heh, heh...fire JVG and guess what? We'll STILL LOOSE a few preseason games (w/the new coach), and you guys would still be calling for the coaches job, whomever it would be. Sooner or later....it always happens.

Just like Rudy. You JVG haters are doing the same thing. Of, course, until everyone demands that McGrady or Yao be traded. But that wont happen until AFTER the coach is fired.

    Crazy....sky is falling whiners!

That's true. A normal progression. Not a *lets fire him after one bad preseason loss.*

Why is it that basketball seems to have the shortest longevity for coaches of the big three sports...even if a team is winning (ala Lakers and Jackson). Look at baseball and football...and sure there is some turnover in coaches who don't lead their teams to at least the playoffs...but it seems teams/owners/fans place more faith and patience in them than in basketball...look at Jeff Fisher, Bill Cowher, Joe Torre, etc. Have any of those teams won it all lately...nope but they're still there. Maybe those are the exceptions to the rule...but I dunno...just seems like in basketball, everybody takes on a what have you done for me lately mentality and seems to forget that winning a championship or building a championship team takes patience.

So maybe we should give JVG the patience he deserves. He's only been here...FOR ONE DAMN YEAR!

The coach said the Spurs game was the start of the regular season. So that means we are 0-2 and Yao is injured. Thanks coach!!

Why are you saying "Thanks coach"?

Was Yao getting injured JVG's fault? So Yao should stop playing in the preseason... oh and he should stop playing in the regular season too incase he gets injured and can't play in the playoffs. Or maybe you can use your jedi mind powers to go hyperextend Rasho's neck for me.

I think JVG is really a Sith lord.

No seriously, we all saw this coming. Yao falls down in every game. Someone his height has a long ways to fall. Seems no one has coached him on how to avoid injury. But, hey JVG wants to be intense as regular season.
