This worries me, too. The bashing is gonna be off the chain this season...

Geez, no kidding! One preaseason loss and everyone wants Van Gundy fired and Yao traded! I completely agree DaDakota. That is what it looked like to me. They did get ALOT of good looks against the best defensive team in the league, which is encouraging. TMac said it best after the game when he stated that they were thinking too much. I think this also was a good reason for the high turnover number. Anyway, I guess I saw this game as a glass half-full. Our defense was great and, if TMac's shooting was at his average and Yao didn't miss most of the 1st half, I believe this would have been a win against arguably the best team in the league. I am VERY satisfied with TMac's defense and am more optomistic about this season than I was a month ago.

It seems that we are going to be perfect if we fire JVG and trade Yao Bust.:(

While I think jediknight's post is entirely too hasty...he does make some valid points. I would like to see the Rockets bring in a different big man than Ewing to teach Yao some things. Yao's biggest advantage is his size (duh...and pun intended), so his moves down in the low post are the most significant part of his game that should be developed. Maybe I'm just not remembering well, but Ewing never really struck me as a highly skilled low post player. I'm sure he has taught Yao some things, like how to solicit a lap dance for less than $20, but I feel a different teacher could be much more effective in the long run.

According to JVG, the season officially started for the rockets last night.

I disagree with the assertion at the start of this thread.

This is going to be a better year than last year and a much better year than the 4-5 year's prior to JVG's arrival when Rox didn't make playoffs.

Dunno why you guys are bustin the coaches chops when its obviously the players faults. what we really need to do is trade Yao to GS for more gritty white players. Too bad they don't still have the custodian. :(

I'd like to plant my foot so far up some of yalls whiney asses.

Think about this ya whiney b****es, these players are almost all new to each other and JVG's system, also most of the Rox preseason has been spent 20,000 feet about ground level or doing ambassador work in China. They will gel and should be one of the top three or four teams in the West.

/some of you fockers sicken me

I know it's early, but let me ask you this -

How many points did the JVG NY teams score?

Let me give you a hint - think low. And that was pre-zone days.

I'm afraid if we go with a SG/C postup game that teams will zone low and leave us to chucking up the 3. Last night we shot 17 of them at nice 41% clip and still lost. Shooting more outside shots will cause us to be very inconsistent. We need to make O adjustments based on what the D is showing, just like we should make adjustments on D based on the other team's O is showing.

Count me in on the "trade-Ewing-for-an-O-coach" bandwagon.

Looks like jediknight94595 is the grumpy one after last nights pre-season loss. Heh...
Hey, tell me this...how many open shots did we miss last night?

They said the same thing about Larry Brown once.

You are the one who said the shooting percentage would be up, and the days of ten point quarters would not be returning. Guess what. 36%. 10 points in the first quarter. 12 points in the third. Yao played 31 minutes. T-Mac 42 (!!!).

I completely agree with the OP (original poster), but I don't think his stance is militant enough. If we're going to make changes (and a few preseason games are SO TOTALLY ENOUGH to judge this on), I suggest the following:

    1) Trade Yao for one of those large inflatable beach balls.
    2) Fire JVG and hire Jimy Williams. Then, replace Williams with Phil Garner at the break.
    3) Tell T-Mac he WILL be traded if he dishes out less than 27 assists to the beach ball per game.
    4) Start Boki and give him at least 10 3-point attempts per game. If Boki manages to make at least 2 of the shots, give him another 10 attempts.
    5) Fire Ewing and bring Big Country and the reanimated corpse of Yinka Dare into the fold to teach Yao.
    6) Trade Weatherspoon for Garnett, but keep KG on the bench as an "energy guy" sub for Boki.
    7) Sign Andre Ware, Eric Crouch, Gino Torretta, and Danny Wuerffel to compete with Charlie Ward for the starting PG position.
    8) After 1 regular season loss, reverse time and stop the T-Mac trade from happening, because it's SO obvious that JVG just didn't pound the square SF3 peg into the round hole hard enough to make it fit.
    9) Fire the deliciously evil Carroll Dawson and hand all GM duties to Scott Layden.
    10) If the team loses ANY more games, keep trading players like Mark Cuban until you find the right mix. After all, "chemistry" is just a fictitious hype word invented by the ESPN marketing department.

There. Now the team is perfect.

Yeah, and? Get back to me at the end of the season. Hell, get back to me after the All-Star game. We gave Rudy more time. And we gave our turnover machine Francis 5 years.

I'll ask this again. How many open shots did our team miss?

Lets see where you will be when we do shoot better. You'll be saying, "Well, I still can't stand JVG. He's a meanie. He's not like my Rudy. A softie. I like nice-guys, ISO coaches better."

And where were you when we beat Chicago, Miami or Sacramento? Oh, I know where. In the land of "If I complain about JVG on the BBS while we're winning, I will look absurd. I'll wait until we get a loss to complain."

I do expect you to be around here in the first 20 games of the season complaining and whining about JVG; while Yao and McGrady try to find their timing and spacing for each other. But, I'll also expect you to get lost when we start on our winning streaks as the season progresses.

    Remember this...

Rocket winning streak = edc's worst nightmare! :(

It must suck to be you: You will actually be HOPING THAT OUR TEAM LOSES!

LOL!!! Those were hilarious! Especially these... :D

    4) Start Boki and give him at least 10 3-point attempts per game. If Boki manages to make at least 2 of the shots, give him another 10 attempts.
