I think Stone is a control freak, working in a micromanagement environment. Stone could not do that to most established coaches in the league. I think he is trying to keep Silas because he can control the environment, but hiring another coach he would lose control of the rebuild and if it goes negative he would lose his job.

If Stone hadn't promised Silas a shot at making the playoffs when we don't own our pick in 2023-2024, Silas would have resigned during or right after season 1. It's easier to recover your coaching career from that than it is to undertake an entire rebuilding process and get fired before there's a chance of making the playoffs. The only thing that will get Silas fired is if he says to Stone: I'm going to try to win as many games as possible and prioritize minutes for the most productive players and hold players accountable like it's a playoff team.

Right now, Silas is Stone's most beneficial friend. A "nice guy" coach with a good reputation around the league who is willing to destroy his own coaching record is not easy to find.

Imagine you are starting your head coaching career, you join a team with James Harden on board and then immediately discover that this team - with or without you - is about to start a few years of attempting to get the #1 pick every year. You'd be furious, your career would be in shambles. This is not what Silas wants, these are just the cards he was dealt. If you try to make yourself accountable for a rotation consisting mostly of 20-21 year olds, you will need a therapist very soon because those players will screw up constantly even with the best head coach in the world at the helm.

You guys need to stop it with pinning everything on Silas, you are being ignorant of the situation. We're about 84% of the way through with tanking (40ish games remaining out of 246). They are not pulling the plug because to them nothing is wrong and it's almost over. Do you really think there's even a 1% chance that they're going to change course when we're 40 games away? If they land the #1 pick, this would be the fastest and most successful rebuild in NBA history.

Grow up guys. There's no nobility going on here, there's no morals or ethics at play. We're tanking for the pick, Stone is happier when we lose games we can win. It's time to look for other things in the game to track improvement, progress, growth. Look deeper, stop being so shallow.
