If you're really speeding, I probably wouldn't move too. Your highbeams will just make the situation worse, I might just slow down. Don't tread on me.

You are exactly the kinda people this law would get rid of from the left lane. Geeze, if I want to speed, who are you to try and get in my way. O'well, not that I really care, I'm so use to slow pokes in the left lane, I usually just weave around anyway. To this day, no ticket and no accident yet. :D

I care, because people who speed present a danger to my life when I'm on the same highway as them. I'm sure you probably think you drive better or safer when you are going 80 or 90, but the facts would prove you wrong. If you are going the speed limit and someone is in the left lane going under the speed limit, then you have a big time right to be pissed, but otherwise, you should slow down.

If you have ever taken any statistic class, you would know that whatever statistic you can pull up that proves this, I can prove to you its BS. The majority of accidents that occur don't even happen on highways, the place where most people speed.

This is going to be interesting. "Sir, I'm giving you a ticket for going the speed limit".

You know that most people that cause slowdowns in the left lane probably are going right at the speed limit or maybe even 5 mph faster. That's just a wild hunch - no hard facts to back it up. ;)

Which is exactly what I was complaining about. EVERY SINGLE TIME that has happened to me, I wasn't speeding! They were going at least 10 under in the left lane. And then neither of the cars in either lane wouldn't move, so I had to pull over in a gas station to calm down, get a soda, and give them a lil space.

I can understand, especially in rural TX, sometimes it's nice to just chill and drive and see the scenery (if there is any), but that's rediculous.

whats funny is that I have a friend who is a trooper for SC. We were talking yesterday about this very problem.

Don't expect this to happen in Texas. The main problem is that in states with hills, cars going very fast never sees the slow car coming over the hill. He says accident scenes are the worse. Cars are always piling up over eachother because people are going too fast and never see the stopped traffic.

If people with your mentality, who want to endorse vigilante justice, would just stay to the right hand side, than people who like to speed (yes, like me), wouldn't be forced to use tactics such as weaving through traffic, tailgaiting, and flashing my highbeams just to get slow people out of the way.

Staying in the left lane to piss speeders off presents MORE of a danger to your life than letting speeders happily drive by.

Who are you to flautingly break the law, speed, and expect me to bow to your wishes? Don't worry, I'll get over if your are courteous. But If I am already going 10 miles per hour over the limit, and you're being spaz, don't expect me to move anytime soon.

    Happy Motoring! :)

Your attitude reminds me of a certain Simpson episode.

Lisa: Bart, just get outta here.
Bart: Hey, it's a free country. You get out.
    Lisa: That doesn't make sense.
Bart: I know you are, but what am I?
    Lisa: Get out, get out!
Bart: OK, but on my way, I'm going to be doing this. (windmills arms) If you get hit, it's your own fault....

Umm... what is courteous? Usually my rountine is to get really REALLY close and flash once, if you don't move, I give you the finger and go around you. :D

Seriously though, I have never flashed/honked/tailgated anyone for being too slow. I usually just stay behind till I have a path to get around them. The only thing I do do is that when I go by, I take a good look at who the stupid annoying driver is, and make a mental note. So far, women are leading the tally. :D :p

Speed in and of itself is often not the factor in car wrecks. It's speed differentials. So if traffic is moving at 70mph, it's the guy going 60mph that's the dangerous one.

If there are only two cars on the road travelling at different speeds, then both cars are equally dangerous to each other.

I get annoyed driving to Amarillo from here and back. There are multiple times that I have to slow down considerably because of people trotting along well under the speed limit. And I'm not speeding in these instances because I don't speed on that road (because there's a speed trap seemingly every few feet). I set the cruise control and go, but invariably I have to slow down a lot, making my trip that much more dangerous.

I especially love the people who drive along at about ten to fifteen mph below the speed limit who come over a hill, see a police cruiser AND THEN SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES to quickly slow down even though they were already travelling well below the speed limit.

That needs to be law.......everywhere! That would rock. I sometimes wish all the times I've had to pass morons who insist upon dawdling in the left lane on the right and from having to sit behind some ******* in a minivan while they pass a column of trucks at .5 mph faster than the trucks that my car had a couple of those James Bondesque rocket launchers. Flash the headlights and if they don't move....blaaamo!!! Nothing bothers me more on the interstate than that.

I'm almost positive it's already a law here, or a variation of it anyway.

A DPS officer wrote a letter to the editor to the Houston Chronicle a couple of years ago saying she was more likely to give a ticket to the person driving slower than traffic in the left lane than the people speeding. There are signs every once in awhile saying "Slower Traffic Keep Right", which, as a black and white sign, is just as enforceable as a speed limit sign.

So, driving 60 in the fast lane while the rest of the traffic is going 70 is just as illegal as driving 75 in a 70 mph speed limit.

Try telling a cop that you were only speeding to keep up with traffic. He will laugh in your face. I know, I tried it, and it was true.

That's not what I said at all. I think that a cop has just as much a right in Texas to pull you over because you're in the "fast" lane going slower than the traffic as they do pulling you over for speeding. I wouldn't try to use this to get out of a ticket.

My question Exactly. If I'm going the speed limit in that lane . .. . .or even in the other lane. . . . how am I stopping someone from passing.

If I'm going 70 . .. and you need to pass me. . . are you not speeding?

    ALSO
don't cops have better things to police?

    sounds like SPEED TRAP 2.0
i.e. a money making scheme. . . . how long is TOO LONG?
