Even if we don't make the playoffs this just made this year so much more special.

If this season is Dreams last in the Rockets pj's seeing him play will certainly unite all TRUE Rocket fans.

I feel a tear coming..... better go...

P.S. I will buy the bobbing Dream doll from anyone who attends the last game of the season.

Just when it seems the Rockets are falling out of it and on the brink of elimination they are saved. This team will never stop fighting. Wow, this is unbelievable. I can't wait to hear what he players think of this, they must be ecstatic. They have their big man back to play some good defense, unlike Cato. I truly believe the Rockets were meant to make the playoffs this year, and now with Dream back who knows what will happen.

    YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
HA HA HA HA HHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! HEll YES BABY, HELL YES! HAKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEMMMMMMMMMMM THEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE DREEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMM OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLAAAAAAJOWWWWWWOOOOOOOOOOONNNN!

That's all I have to say on the matter.

Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.

(removing characters out of 1000 character "YEAHHH!!" without spaces.... stretches out the board)

You know what kills me? This post was made at 7:38pm ... I KNOW I checked the board at 7:32 before heading over right then to a party for my brother/sister-in-law.

Just my freakin' luck.... got back 20 minutes ago about to head to bed and caught this post. D-D-D-D-D-A-M-N....

Nice scoop Old School (one of the more underrated posters on the board)... as usual. Wish I had been here to catch it [IMG]

Great news for the Rockets. Lets hope this gives them a shot in the arm because quite frankly they're facing an extremely tough task -- they have to make up four games in their last 13 contests (one of the reasons the Clippers loss was a killer).

What hurts me is earlier I had a 'tank tank tank' joke signature done to the tune of 'shake your booty'.

And then I read Dream's words: "I'm not giving up on the playoffs, and no one else should."

Damn. Nothing else that I can say.

    (===) until the end.

A-Mazing. I love the guy more and more every day. I am ecstatic that the Dream is healthy and fired up about playing, but....

As big of an Olajuwon fan as I am (there isn't one bigger), I am still very doubtful of the team making the playoffs.

I can see us finishing 9 - 4, but that would mean that either Minnesota or Phoenix couldn't win more than 5 games the rest of the way. More wins by us means we can withstand more wins by them, but we have some tough games coming up against teams we rarely beat, and 9 and 4 is a darn good record the rest of the way.

Even if we don't make the playoffs, I hope the team does finish with 47 wins. That would be an accomplishment in itself. Also, I will be glad to see Hakeem back on the court for any amount of time.

(Sorry for bringing some realism into this thread. [IMG])

I had almost given up hope on the playoffs, but if this isn't fate what is. This season has been magnificent. Everytime something bad happend something good came and hit harder. In the middle of the season when The Rockets hit one of their lowest points ever with Dream asking to be traded, the team falling apart and then being blownout by the clippers and heat back to back. The next week Dream talks to the front office and says he's happy as a Rocket, the team gets on the same page and a beautiful string of victories come together for us. Next we lose Dream, have our heart broken by losing to the suns and find out that Dream is out for the season. What do we do? Come back from 20 to end an 11 or 12 game losing streak to the league's best team. The next thing that happens is one of the worst calls in NBA history, we lose to the kings then get beat by the damn clippers pushing playoff fantasies almost out of the picture. Now Dream's back.

I'm still a believer til the end.

i posted this about 5 days ago in a little itty-bitty thread that no one read, but now that hakeem is back this may help some of you understand the medical aspects...

"actually, i hope this clears up a little about hakeem's condition. actually i'm presuming he had a DVT (deep vein thrombosis) which is what he had in the past. Basically this is a blood clot in the veins returning blood from his leg. Normally the blood can take alternative paths to get a around a clot (much like a single lane accident on a multilane freeway) - there might be a little swelling (traffic jam) but not too much risk. However the clot tends to grow on it's own (like a pileup taking up all the lanes) and then the blood really backs up and eventually no movement of blood in the leg, which can lead to no replenishing of needed oxygen which can cost a leg. However this is a slow process (days) which can be monitored with a type of ultrasound easily. Therefore the logical question is why not clear the clot out with blood thinners for a few days and then just monitor him while he's playing. The problem with this is that the actual danger is not in the leg itself, its that people who have blood clots are known to occasionally have a piece of the blood clot break off and go up to the heart and then out to the lungs where it can get lodged again (this time in an artery) and cause death to a large portion of the lung (which can then cause instant death - this is actually what Lucy died of in ER, if you watch). This is called a pulmonary embolism.

Because of this phenomenon doctors have found it is safest to keep people on blood thinners for an extended period (i'm not sure there is an exact reason for the lenght other than what experience has told them). And of course the main risk to being on blood thinners is that if Hakeem got jabbed hard in the upper left side of his abdomen - where his spleen is (a very blood filled organ) - he could die of internal bleeding.

Also, this is actually one of the reasons that people die of unexpectedly on planes - because after sitting hours in a cramped seat the blood flow gets sluggish and a clot forms, and then a pulmonary embolism. In fact most of us sitting at the computer for hours on end are at MUCH higher risk than athletes (except unfortunate athletes like Hakeem who must have a genetic predispostion)"

Now while i'm ecstatic that hakeem is coming back, my impression is that they will likely have to monitor his legs VERY CLOSELY for any signs of re-clotting. since this can be a costly procedure to do regularly the rockets probably were willing to pay that cost. hopefully, he won't have another clot, and may even restart the blood thinners during the offseason.

Oh my! My Word! My Gosh!

I haven't been online since before the Clippers game (due to disgust combined with being swamped with work) and just checked in to see this!

I swear, I thought it was an april fool's joke. I checked 2 calenders even. All I got to say is, I never gave up hope, but after this, my hope is stronger than ever!

I'm not holding my breath. Denton Cooley is the same doctor who gave Dick Cheney the "thumbs up" to carry on with his VP duties. Two heart attacks later, some of the luster is gone from Cooley's rep. Best of luck to Dream, but I hope this doesn't come back to haunt him.
