I said they had the best crew in houston. I also said they outscoop the others.

Which statement is bs?

It seems like they did outscoop the other sports crews this time.

BTW when I say "better", I'm talking about better at getting the outscooping the other sports crews.

This makes no sense to me. How can doctor say he shouldn't play for 3-6 months just a week ago now say he can. They made it sound as if he were to get hit he could bleed to death.

Can the fans sue for unnecessary emotional distress??

As I mentioned earlier tonight's was a real nice scoop...props to them if it turns out to be true. Apparently they couldn't get anyone to go on the record so who knows. They just aren't very watchable, imo. Everyone has their likes and dislikes and their whole newscast is pretty lame to me.

i have absolutely no medical training whatsoever

My take on the Fox story: The problem was that Dream was supposed to be on blood thinning drugs for 3-6 to treat his circulatory problem in his calf. That problem was reevaluated recently, and they decided they could take Dream off the blood thinning drugs. It was risky for him to play because of the blood thinning drugs, not the injury, so if he comes off the drugs he can play.

The Rockets had no comment.

Good news for the Rockets, but it makes me worry about Hakeem.

Was his medical condition simply not as serious as originally believed, or does he simply believe he'll be fine for the end of the season?

I agree about their newscast being bad. I only tune in towards the end for the sports. I avoid the other parts of the newscast.
Anyway I'm still not totally sold on Olajuwon coming back. I'd prefer him to not come back if he has to jeopardize his health. If he's ok to go though, then I'm happy.

Exactly haven... Is it really the best medical treatment for his condition? Is he taking a risk for the sake of playing? Is his injury going to return after he come back and off the drugs?

Olajuwon cleared to return

He's back. Again.

Ten days after his season was supposedly ended and his career threatened by a blood disorder, Hakeem Olajuwon was given medical clearance to resume full workouts with an eye on returning to the Rockets' lineup, possibly Tuesday night against the Utah Jazz.

A venogram performed on the 38-year-old center Friday morning by team physician Dr. James Muntz at Methodist Hospital showed that all the veins in Olajuwon's left leg are open with no evidence of a clot.

"This is wonderful news to me, and I cannot wait to rejoin my teammates for the final weeks of the season and do everything we can to make the playoffs," Olajuwon said. "It has always been my belief that I would still be able to play. The swelling in my leg has gone down. I have no pain. I feel fine."

Olajuwon will not be required by the Rockets or the NBA to sign any waivers pertaining to his current condition in order to resume play.

This is a dramatic reversal from the announcement March 13 that Olajuwon's season effectively would be ended by the decision to place him on a regimen of coumadin, a powerful blood thinner, for a period of three to six months. Any contact on the basketball court that might have resulted in a severe bruise or trauma while taking coumadin could have produced dangerous hemorraghing.

Thus, Olajuwon was put on the injured list and has missed the past five games. But the 17-year NBA veteran never discontinued his daily workouts in the weight room, on the track and on the practice floor.

Olajuwon also stopped taking the coumadin after just three days and instead has been receiving daily injections of heparin, a low-molecular-weight blood thinner. His dosage of heparin has been reduced and will be discontinued Monday. Treatment then will consist of a daily aspirin and wearing elastic support stockings.

The Rockets' medical staff will monitor Olajuwon over the weekend for any signs of the swelling in his left calf, which is where he suffered a blood clot in 1989. But he is looking forward to making his latest return to the lineup Tuesday night against the Jazz at Compaq Center. His teammates will close out a three-game West Coast road trip tonight in Seattle, having lost the first two in Sacramento and in Los Angeles to the Clippers.

"Are you kidding?" Olajuwon said when asked if he'd be ready. "Of course. I have felt like I've been ready for several days. I'm telling you, the leg feels like there was never anything wrong. I am strong. I am fit. Which is why I had a difficult time accepting it when I was told I couldn't play for six months."

The swelling in his leg showed up after Olajuwon played his best game of the season, amassing 27 points with 13 rebounds and a blocked shot while shooting 10-for-16 from the field March 3 in Dallas. He tried to play in the next game March 7 in Atlanta but had to leave the floor after 10 minutes without scoring. He was placed on the injured list March 15, prior to a home game against New Jersey.

Olajuwon consulted cardiologist Dr. Denton Cooley of the Texas Heart Institute for a second opinion on the diagnosis and treatment, and he was re-evaluated by Muntz on his condition and progress.

It was determined there was a blockage in the arteries in Olajuwon's calf. But the latest venogram has revealed normal blood flow in the area, indicating the treatment was successful.

This has been a wildly unpredictable season for Olajuwon, the 11-time All-Star, former Most Valuable Player and bellwether of the Rockets' back-to-back NBA championships in 1994 and 1995. In early November, on the eve of what was supposed to be his final pass through the NBA, Olajuwon left the door open to continue playing next season after his contract expired with the Rockets.

There was the midseason breakdown in communication between Olajuwon and coach Rudy Tomjanovich that threatened to paint an ugly ending on a stellar career. There was the first half of the season when Olajuwon struggled to find his rhythm on the court and his place on the team, and his performance was nothing like that of the franchise icon who had shone for years.

He missed 12 games in late December and early January with a swollen right knee and has played in 49 of the Rockets' 69 games to date.

There were skeptics and critics -- some within the organization -- who said he was another over-the-hill athlete stubbornly refusing to let go of his career.

Then, during a four-week stretch from Feb. 5 through March 3, Olajuwon rekindled much of his past glory, averaging 31 minutes, 16 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.31 blocks and 1.54 steals per game. He shot 56 percent from the field and helped lead the left-for-dead Rockets back into the Western Conference playoff race.

But just when it appeared Olajuwon had hit full stride with his performance in Dallas, he suffered the latest setback.

"The swelling in my leg was a shock to me," he said. "But it was even more of a shock to be told that my season was over. I could not believe it. I could not accept it. That is why I continued my workouts. If anything, I increased the intensity of the workouts so that I could maintain my level of fitness and be ready to play as soon as I received clearance.

"I never felt this was so bad, that it should end my career or my season. I am very happy now to confirm that my feelings were reality. If I had sat back with my leg elevated and taken the coumadin, the news I have received today would not be possible.

"I am grateful for the results of the new tests and the clearance from the Rockets' medical staff. Now I want to get back on the court and play.

"I'm comfortable," Olajuwon said. "I feel my conditioning is good. But there is nothing like a competitive situation. Coming back against a good team like Utah will be a real test. But I hope to be there. I want to be there. I'm not giving up on the playoffs, and no one else should."</font>

Rocketman95, earlier I believe you said we'll need a sweet gift from God in order to make the playoffs.
