I think Bat can have a good season with Rockets.
first of all he's good in defense. Defended points are almost as good as scored points, with Yao's presence around to scare opponents. He's a good character, which helps with team Chemistry, teams shouldn't have more than one troublemaker in their roster and that only if he's a good player.

Also his offense is a questionmark, but I'm under the impression he might have better stats as a PF, T-Mac's and Yao's presense and passing ability granting more chances for easier baskets, in combination with longer range shooting.

He doesn't have to have a stellar performance to contribute. Besides he might be coming from the bench to cover both forward positions.

Battier is a good addition to any team. The man brings all positives to both sides of the floor. He's a step up from our supporting cast last year and i have nothing but faith for the man and our team in the upcoming. Watch and join the bandwagon---

From what I've seen, I like Battier as a player and as a person. But I will say that he comes off a little goodie-goodie. Cheerleady in a way. Always says the right thing. Does the right thing. Can start to get a little annoying.

He will be Jeff Van Gundy's pet. Until Van Gundy tires of the rose colored glasses and milk mentality.

    That's cool i guess.

I watched the game and paid special attention to both V-Span and Battier.

Actually Battier played very well in the limited on court time, he got offensive rebounds, blocked a couple of shots and was the only guy who know how to defend PnR. He was the key factor building up the moment in Q4 to cut the deficit to single digit.

He didn't contribute much on the offensive end except battling for rebounds and diving for loose balls. Anyhow when you had the ball in Wade, Melo or James' hand, how could you expect anybody else to have contribution ?

Would you rather have him choke JVG? Complain about practice?

Coach K only kept Battier out to save face for Melo, Lebron and Wade. Imagine him benching any of those three in favor of Battier for the rest of the game because they're sucked-...

Incidentally JVG was the one who revived Sprewell's career after the choking incident.

Greece went on that huge run when he was NOT playing. He made a ridiculous hustle play in the second half.....did you watch the game?

That is the reason we should never trade consummate professionals like Juwan Howard! Positive attitude equals positive results! I love you all!

I think that Coach K's "motivation" was that he could never have answered the "homer" critics had he taken minutes away from the US stars in favor of Battier. I wonder what Coach K is thinking now?

you just must be joking, he was playing on a team of ALL STARS of course minutes are going to be cut drastically. i don't think he's just above average. i think he's what this team needs defensively. he actually good height for PF/SF.

he's not thinking he could have won. even overplaying what battier brings, he didn't shoot well, the only person that shot well was anthony. battier maybe would have helped them defensively.

I much rather hear Battier tell us the truth after the game and sound humble then D. Wade who said he doesn't care what fans think in the US after this loss...of course he doens't care, and neither did the other stars on the team and thats why they won't win gold....i can't stand it when players are arrogant !!! admit that you got beat and you deserve any criticism you get from us fans.....

THIS IS WHAT I SAW IN THE LOSS

Lebron crying to the officials like a little b****...grow up and if you can't hit pass the F*&&*^G rock.

No inside presence..those who say Howard is a better center than Yao should really rethink

Did not play like a team and ironically instead of using talent to attack the rim, I think they got arrogant and tried to prove they could shoot better which is a joke.....hit a shot NBA

    AS FOR BATTIER

He should have gotten in the game more to makeup for the star players deficiencies....defense, playing for loose balls and making the right passes

THE THING I LIKED MOST ABOUT BATTIER is that when the USA team lost they walked off the floor as Greece celebrated and Lebron argued the refs and BATTIER was the only player I saw go up to the Greece huddle and congradulate the players

AS FOR ALL OF YOU WHO TALKED S&^T ABOUT HIS CLASS I AM TEMPTED TO MAKE A NOTE OF YOUR NAMES AND RUB YOUR NOSES IN THE REALITY WHEN YOU LOSE ARGUMENTS ON THIS BOARD....WOULDN'T THAT BE AN ARROGANT THING TO DO?

    DEATH TO THE AND1 MENTALITY!

Well, defense wins games and championships. I'm not rushing into criticizing someone's shooting performance who only played twelve minutes. Most people don't hit every other shot literally. They make one, miss three, make two, miss two, make three, and miss one last one. When all is said and done they were 6 for 12... if they get enough minutes to get off 12 shots in their offensive pattern.

I think Coach K caved into the hype of our stars.

too much analysis of a couple of WC games.

Battier will be fine. Don't worry at all about him not putting up massive numbers at the tourney.

Coach K is one of the ones responsible for the non stars being on the team. one of the problems, hinrich was there for his defense and got lit up by almost every guard he played.
