So you are saying a star was never born off the bench. The only reason Goran has been discovered so late is because he played behind a back to back MVP. He has all the skis to be a elite level point gaurd. Great handles, quick, athletic, creative, court vision, jump shot, strong finisher, good height for pg.
No bro. I wasn't saying that. I was just pointing out that we don't really have a bonifide star on our roster. Hopefully Dragic will resign and develop into one, but I think we are a long way away from being NBA championship contenders. Believe me, i do think Dragic has the talent to be an NBA star, but he's not there yet, and it's telling that our former bench player is the closest thing we have to a star.
This seems so long ago, anybody who has the Portland games with My20 / FSN commentary, please PM me. The commentary by NBA TV and ESPN was atrocious and they don't show the 2009 playoffs introduction video. I need the wins of this series + that introduction in good quality. Anybody from houston willing to upload or sell?
Ideally, every team should be at trying their damnedest to reach the playoffs sort of like the NFL, though there are the proverbial bumps in the road. This Rockets team is mercurial, like the last two seasons. On some nights, they look like a playoff team, and other nights they aren't quite up to snuff to other Western Conference teams. There's a reason the teams at the top are starting to pull away a little bit. They could go 6-6 and end up in the playoffs (35-31). I cannot say with any conviction this team will miss the playoffs or reach the 8th seed. I would not put money on either side. Though, I will say if we make it, I do not see an upset against the Spurs, Thunder, and definitely not the Lakers. Those teams are also hitting their strides. Given that these teams are going to be a little rested and have their full rosters intact, it's going to be monumental to put up a great series without Martin and Lowry, while relying on Camby to log heavier minutes. There won't be any back to backs, and playing in Houston does not really scare alot of teams. Teams may take the Rockets a little bit more serious, since these will be more meaningful games with alot more in stake. Teams are going to bring their A and B+ games more so than listless, rather forgettable regular season game. We could push a team like OKC to 6 or 7, yet I could totally see a sweep. Again, all of the games do not have to be a blowout, but OKC can simply win each games by a few margins. This team is still a few years away and couple of players and positions short of being a really solid contender. I'm very unsure about this team's future, I think they will be in the playoff picture, but championships I cannot predict. It wouldn't be devastating for this team, not to make the playoffs. It's hanging on the edge, while being a few games over .500. In the NBA, it's harder to win in the playoffs for inferior teams without a home court advantage or a reliable go-to player.
Man it sure felt good to win that series. If I remember correctly, isn't that the same year that Brandon Roy beat us with that buzzer beating half court shot earlier in the year?? I remember being super pissed at Roy then, but after this series, all was well.
Good post. I'll just say it. We're likely going to be just on the outside, looking in....which isn't a bad position for THIS Rockets team. 2 probable Lottos + 22-23 in arguably the best draft in the last decade and a half....Forget about conveyance to NJ and all that...That's the party line. We are set with Camby et. al coming off the books and armed with a 12 -13 million dollar expiring in Kevin Martin.....It's about THIS draft/next deadline.. Our Rockets have been positioned well by Morey ........
Of course we can win a series but ultimately we're going to lose. I am excited for the playoffs but again we're just filler in what's ultimately a tournament for a championship
IF we make it, i want to as a 5th seed, but if we barely slip in as a 8th seed then i'd rather miss it completely and have a shot at a better draft spot.. When OKC made it as a 8th seed 2 years ago they had young DRAFTED talent(Durant, Westbrook, Harden) so being the 8th seed was just part of the process, then last year it got better making the WCF and not they are #1 in the West and looking to be THE legit contender they were all thought to be 2 years ago as a young up and coming 8th seed.. I think we can make the 5th spot if Lowry and martin come back and accept a role off the bench and scoring threats.. we would have the best bench in the playoffs..
Is it though? The playoffs is the playoffs; 9th and 10th are far far far far worse. Plus, since everyone around here is endlessly obsessed with player development - a few playoff games goes a long way towards teaching young guys competitive lessons they won't get from a 20 win lottery team.
we are currently only a game and half behind 5th place which is Mem. (hypothetically if Mem gets a lower seed) Do you guys think we could beat the 4th place clippers in the first round of the playoffs? i would be very confident that we can beat this team, that is if Stern doesn't make it so that the clippers get 30+ FTA per game
So nobody who has the Blazers games on DVR with local houston feed, this is a rockets board and nobody has them??
That was so long ago man  I had the games a little while ago (the wins) but my dvr auto deleted them
LOVE that pic!! haha... i remember this series like yesterday, it was very emotional for me when we won that series and especially game 1 vs lakers when yao came back and finish strong
