I still just can't wrap my head around people saying Curry is the MVP over Harden. Its like they don't really know what MVP stands for.
It doesn't stand for anything. It's just an award people hand out at the end of the day. Is it the best stats? The best team record? The guy who is most responsible for a team's success? No one really has defined it. It's subjective. It's based on opinion. So how can you even say "it's like they don't really know what MVP stands for?" Who does??? In my opinion, Harden means more to the Rockets than Curry to the Warriors. The Warriors might still make the playoffs without curry. The Rockets would be in the lottery without Harden - and probably down their with Sacramento. But the stats, the record, and the love for Curry will win him that award. And there's no shame in that. Just like Robinson won it over Hakeem. That's why there's the playoffs. Where you get the chance to set the record straight.
I guess this is kinda passive agressive but it is still a case for Harden. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/listen-to-your-heart-james-harden-is-the-mvp/
There is no easy way to compare and contrast the seasons that Curry and Harden are having as players in the league, bc they are essentially better than everyone else at their respective positions. Lets look at Steph's numbers vs some of the recent top tier PG's in the league 2014-2015 Curry Stats PPG: 23.6 RPG: 4.3 APG: 7.7 Player A PPG: 18.8 RPG: 4.2 APG: 10.5 Spoiler Steve Nash: MVP 2005-2006 Season Player B PPG: 22.8 RPG: 5.5 APG: 11.0 Spoiler Chris Paul: Never has won the MVP; 2008-2009 Season stats - 1st year LBJ won his MVP Player C PPG: 24.0 RPG: 4.3 APG: 8.5 Spoiler Steph Curry 2013-2014 stats Player D PPG: 27.7 RPG: 7.3 APG: 8.7 Spoiler Russell Westbrook's 2014-2015 mind blowing stats in 62 games played Lets now compare this to James Harden and statistical equivalents: 2014-2015 Harden Stats - PPG: 27.7 RPG: 5.7 APG: 6.9 Player A PPG: 35.4 RPG: 5.3 APG: 4.5 Spoiler Kobe Bryant's 2005-2006 best personal statistical year as a two guard; MVP went to Steve Nash Player B PPG: 28.3 RPG: 6.3 APG: 5.4 Spoiler Kobe Bryant's first and only MVP year 2007-2008 Player C PPG: 30.2 RPG: 5.0 APG: 7.5 Spoiler Dwyane Wade's Monster 2008-2009 season; LBJ's first MVP award Player D PPG: 32.0 RPG: 7.4 APG: 5.5 Spoiler Kevin Durant's MVP 2013-2014 season Player E PPG: 32.1 RPG: 6.5 APG: 5.5 Spoiler Tracy McGrady's monster 2003-2004 season; MVP went to Kevin Garnett To say that either player is having mind blowing stats is a joke. Curry obviously has the West Coast market constantly gushing over how awesome Golden State is since you know...the Lakers blow. James Harden's accomplishments get muted bc his style of play isnt "conducive for an MVP."... But saying that Curry's stats and his first place Warriors blow Harden out of contention is just purely idiotic...it also rages of pure ignorance. IF CURRY WINS - good for him, and I sure as heck hope that the Rockets have a chance to meet the Warriors in the Postseason. IF HARDEN WINS - good for him, but I hope that his sights at becoming an alltime great arent muted. Recognition comes with postseason success...Winning the MVP is a terrific achievement, but even some of the greatest statistical seasons were overlooked for the MVP award. Hoping Harden sets his goals on something greater...OUR CITY COUNTS ON HIM TO DELIVER. #LarryOBrien #ReturnofClutchCity
LOL. I was busy with work in the past two days and now I find myself in the woodshed and saw mill. If people do not see the fallacy of the OP's premise, then I have nothing more to say. BTW, I love how SamFisher of all people pulls out an old argument to try to discredit me.
Pretty solid table looking at scoring between the candidates. I would say defense is probably a wash. Curry has actually been above average this year but Harden's load makes his position a little tougher.
Harden hits back 2 back 3's and a step back to seal the game... Curry misses 2 shots and travels.....just lol
He's saying that the table implies that Curry is better than Harden by a long shot, but just about everything Curry is beating Harden in is due to superior shooting ability. Korver, arguably the best shooter in the NBA, would probably look decent enough to win an MVP, with those stats being used as a comparison.
I have no doubt Harden is more valuable to the rockets than Curry to the Warriors simply because Harden has to carry the load more due to the injuries. But why everyone is saying Curry has better teammates?? Seriously would you trade Dwight for Bogut?? Both are injuries prone. Would you trade Dmo for Green? Would you trade Ariza for Barnes? Would you trade Jones for Lee? Would you trade Smith for Iguodala? Would you trade Brewer for Livingston? I can only said Klay Thompson is much better than Beverley. The rest is debatable.
because instead of howard, he had to play with dorsey just as much if not more than howard. jones how much has he played with him. same as bev and now dmo. so instead we have nick johnson, prig, and played with papa until he was injured, etc. if we had a full cast and actually had those players playing with harden, don't you think we have a better record?
Dwight for Bogut? Bogut has been more productive this year because of injuries, but a trade isn't made that like. If it was a trade for just the last 70 odd games and we can get Dwight back, yes Green for Dmo? yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes The issue with Houston isn't that we're necessarily untalented, it's that we've been injured more than anyone else. If Klay missed 40 games, limped around for another 20, Bogut missed 30, Green missed a dozen or so, Livingston played the first 30 games for another team, Iguodala too, their record looks really really really really different
Actually no I'm not at all. I'm saying Curry is more efficient. Saying Curry is better than Harden by a long shot is just dumb. Also yeah, the reason I think Curry has a good MVP argument is his shooting ability. It distorts defenses and gives his teammates so many easy buckets. Klay Thompson has the 2nd biggest dropoff in PER from 1st half to 2nd half of the season btw. On more pro-Harden news, Harden now has a higher RPM than Curry. I'm actually split on my vote. I just find it asinine when people pretend like there is no argument.
