    Not all asians are the same. I'd say a guy from Iran and a guy from Shanghai could not be more different.

    The term 'asian' nowadays is commonly used for oriental states. I think middle eastern is better. :)

    Then why would anyone call the people you call Asians Asian? Afterall, they weren't called "Asian" throughout history either.

    Not all Iranians are the same. I'd say a guy from Tehran is more similar to a guy from Shanghai than a guy from Jasb.

    The term asian is nowadays commonly used for countries geographically located in asia. You have the right to prefer the vocabulary you prefer, but I prefer asian for a country geographically located in asia, to keep things logical. It may be correct to refer to Iran as middle eastern from another perspective, but I was referring to its broader location on the continent, not political subregion.
