The mark of a fairweather fan. Every team has that happen periodically, you don't just turn on them or help perpetuate it. The fans can actually have the best impact when boosting the team with some energy when they'r slumping in a game. And we still won. We can now beat teams by ten when playing well below our potential. By 20-50 when playing well. It's nice to be back there again...
Whatever. A Rockets game is about entertainment. That game was not entertaining at all until the last 3-4 minutes. Kind of hard to get hyped when the team has no energy and are playing like crap. That said, the late start was a factor. People left early so they can get home before midnight, but I guess the people here who didn't leave their house in the first place still want to call them out. The majority of people b****ing about the crowd in this game were sitting at home watching the game on TV. Irony defined. All these, "Houston fans suck" threads are about as original as the "Fire JVG" threads. The NBA economics have corporate seats in the lower areas of all arenas, not just here. So what happens here in Houston is not exclusive to Toyota Center. Go to a Heat game and see how empty that arena is. Try out a Laker game, even Mavs games have plenty of empty seats. Even the Suns/Mavs game had empty seats.
You know I totally agree that our crowd sucks besides a few... I went with three of my buddies last night and we sat in section 108, 7th row . One of my buddies and I were intent on heckling Jeff Foster and for that matter anyone else that came close to our side when it wasn't loud (most of the game BTW). Everyone around us except for this one guy and his girl right behind us were all snobbish and getting irritated with our constant cheering and heckling. WHY DO YOU COME TO A GAME?!?! We are the 6th man people, This aint intramurals brother. If you wanna sit and watch the game then stay at home! If you wanna help the team gain a home court edge then by all means, do everything within your powers to get under the skin of our opponents. Note- We used NO profanities or hateful comments.
Oh, I agree, but in reality, fans cheer when there are GOOD plays on the court, and last night, it was more turnovers and sloppy plays than anything. The Rockets stunk for most of the game and won in the end, there are some nights where the guys just don't make shots, and this was one of those nights....no momentum to build on, no big slam dunks, missed layup after layup, poor passing.... I am just glad the team won...... But, getting back to the fans, people love to cheer, but this brand of ball the Rockets play is not something that is generally exciting unless the 3s are falling, and last night...BLEH ! DD
i was at the game and it was probably the most boring game ever, especially after watching bunch of college basketball games the week before. Here are the factors as to why I can understand why fans werent at the game/left early. A- Late start- 830...Come on, like it was said earlier its a work day, and the game wouldnt be over until after 1115 meaning your home at midnigt especially with traffic from the garage. B-Boring, sloppy, play through 3 Quarters....we couldnt score, we turned the ball over, the most exciting part was the crazy indiana fan behind me, with the bag over his head, screaming about how the pacers suck....still not sure what his deal was. This was the first game I can ever remember leaving early....and I dont think anything is wrong with that, or that people who dont attend the games should b**** about how poor fans are. If you dont like the "corporate suits" showing up late, leaving early, not cheering, then either A) buy the seats yourself if you can, or the ones that are next to them (i.e 55 dollar section) B) complain about Les for charging over 125 dollars for the "corporate section"
I can see it from both sides, I was one of the obnoxious fans yelling and screaming at dallas fans/players couple weeks ago. And I think theres a time and place to heckle someone....Its one thing to make a comment every so often, but to do it constantly (and probably in someones ear) will get annoying to people. They come to the game to watch basketball, not hear your obnoxious and probably not funny comments....
Let's be clear about something here... The "up front" sections that are empty are sections 119, 120, 121 and 106, 107, and 108. I just went to Rockets.com to look at tickets for my family of four to go to the Rockets game against Detroit in one of those sections. This is what I got: .... ...Now I'm a Rockets fan. But it is absolutely ludicrous to think that I would spend $1300 (plus food & drink) on a Rockets game. I'm sick of hearing people complain about the empty seats. If the Rockets organization wants to fill up section 108 with families and rowdy fans, then they should make it financially feasible to do so. Until that happens, please stop complaining about the empty seats.
I agree that the Rockets' Arena generally always sucks if the Rockets weren't in the finals the year previous, but the Rockets lately at home haven't been giving them a whole lot to cheer for. ... Then again, even last night when they actually DID give the crowd something to get excited about in the 4th quarter, they hardly reacted... Honestly, I don't think the Rowdies are doing as good of a job as they should be. They're probably still the best fans we got, though, which is kinda sad. Maybe we just need more of them.
I don't know why but Houston is a baseball town. Football might be king if the Texans were doing better. I bet 1/2 the football fans in Houston probably follow the Tennessee Titans.
why are you guys surprised? corporate dollar is more important to the nba. corporations can buy more tickets.
And Wangdoodle nailed it. I got a 6 game pack on the upper level and I've been to about 6 other games too. Even where I sit it's about 30 bucks a game plus drink and food (although I hit BUS before heading in). It's too expensive for the normal fan to sit down in the lower level. I got access to the lower level for one game this season thanks to a very nice friend, and was my usual self (which means for the most part controlled, but occasionally quite loud and ornery). Noone else around me was loud, but the lexus lounge underneath the stands was packed the whole time, even 30mins after the game. offtopic - I walked acorss the court during halftime of that game. I've been on the floor of the toyota center - woohoo!
for the charles barkley haters, when chuck came to town, that was the best attendance in Rockets history. how many consecutive sellouts? but then again it didnt cost thousands of $$$ to see a game with your family.
Wangdoodle, Dallas fills those exact seats with similar prices night in and out with FANS. Don't tell me people won't spend 1300 dollar seats for their family if they have the money to do so. I'm not going to lie to you, I can't afford those seats. Even if I could, I wouldn't waste my money on the Rockets like that. But I'm just saying, there are some ridiculously wealthy folks out there who can easily spend that much for one night out. OK, I just tried to get one ticket for the Mavs-Bucks game next week for $2,300. All those seats are sold out. This is against the freaking Bucks. I'm sorry, but your logic is faulty. When you have a promotion giving away 500 free tickets to the Rockets game and you barely get 200 people to show up FOR A FREE EVENT IN THE LOWER BOWL then something is terribly wrong. So go back to your financially feasible argument- Rockets have plenty of family night promotions giving out 4 tickets with hot dogs and drinks for about 50 bucks. Why not settle for those? Those packages go wasted all the time. But of course this isn't the NFL and we have the luxury of watching every game on TV regardless of whether it's a sellout or not. Why bother going to the game when you can watch it at home? You are watching the exact same game, aren't you. You probably have a better viewing angle watching it on TV depending on where you seats would've been, wouldn't you? It's a lot cheaper to order carry out and enjoy watching the game in the comfort of your own house and treating yourself to a nice meal, isn't it?
