Where are B.Jones, Timing, and Mad Max? Why are they not rushing to the aide of these God's creatures and screaming out for their rights? Surely these guys don't deserve the death penalty...its not our place to say so...
Well, even though you didn't call me out, I figured I'd respond (even though I already did). This is one of those crimes that really comes close to making a dent in anti-death penalty stance. The Byrd case was another, as is the current Sniper case and anytime a child is killed. However, as hard as it is to stomach these horrendous people staying alive sometimes, I still don't feel it's our place as a society to decide who lives or dies. It's not just the chance that innocent people may die (partly it) or that it's too cruel, I just don't feel comfortable with anyone short of God making that decision. I also don't think your convictions really mean that much if you abandon them when it's easy to do so, like it would be in this case. Now, I have no problem locking these guys up in a hellhole somewhere serving them bread and water, all the while showing them videos of the people they hurt, and ending each and every day with a punch to the nose (yeah, stole that from "The West Wing"). Save the "liberals would never let that happen", please.
Sometimes he leaves US the hard decisions. Good point. Although I strongly disagree with you...I admire your conviction. GIVE them no food. Make them grow everything they eat. Make them do the hard work that farmers must do everyday. Also...add a kick to the balls to the punch to the nose and I think we've got a deal.
Even better idea, Refman. I agree with your first point as well, however, I don't think He'd leave us a decision like that...just my opinion.
And you're entitled to it. I disagree...but I'm not one to question your spirituality and your relationship with God.
I don't believe in the death penalty partly because as you people are showing it's more about revenge and vengeance than punishment. One does not have to support government sanctioned killing in order to be tough on crime. That's a quaint Republican fallacy.
I know several Democrats who support the death penalty. I know Republicans who are against it. It's not a partisan issue.
When Republicans stop using support for the Death Penalty in their campaigns as some sort of litmus test for being tough on crime then it will stop being a partisan issue.
