I prefer the present premise than the predicament we were in when we had the actual Steve Francis, the real Kelvin Cato, the real Moochie Norris with his real Fro', the really overweight MoTaylor, and all their real honest to gawd bloated contracts...plus the never-ending real contract of Matt Maloney. That's what we are really celebrating. That we are actually giving these big money contracts to present players that have actually earned it (and will continue to earn it). Lowry and Scola's work ethic blows any of the aforementioned players' work ethic away. We are also celebrating that we have a GM that I personally feel isn't asleep at the wheel. Our GM is in tune with everything that is going on in the NBA. The games do matter, but also the journey in assembling the team. The fan in me wants know each and every reason that led to how our team is performing on the floor, be it personnel move, coach's decision, or (yeah) injuries. That's why the interest in the summer league games. That's why the interest in the salary cap and luxury tax. That's why the interest in stats. It's a part of the (mental) journey for a fan.
I read the OP and thought it was a good post. Not sure why it was a 2-star thread. Glad my vote bumped it up to 3 stars. I understand that it's cold to look at players as assets but all these dudes are making good money to play a game (too bad they don't all save their money). Trades are part of the business and every team looks at it that way. Morey just talks a little more like an asset manager than he probably should at times but maybe that helps prepare the players better. He's up front about his approach and it seems to be working so far. People got over losing Landry. They'll get over losing Brooks, Budinger, Hill, Battier, etc..., esp. if we become a better team which there is a good chance of with Morey at the helm. I agree with the OP. The time for Morey to make his biggest move to date is fast approaching.
The best asset is capspace. I think morey has done a good job with the team, but he had posters believing that cap room was useless. Well, it isnt because its like being debt free in a sense. You can absorb and just straight out buy players. The heat had no assets and look at them. On the other hand, the knicks only got amare and the nets no one. The caveat to that is they have extreme felxibility. The nets could absorb paul for harris or another smaller contract and the hornets could get a huge salary exception.
Yeah we were like the "Avatar: The Last Aibender" cartoon. Now we are the "Last Airbender" movie.
But the Rockets attracted so many female fans because of him... Houston Rockets star Charles Barkley, on teammate Matt Maloney: "I'll bet I've had 50 women come up to me who want to be introduced to Matt. I just look at them and say, 'Matt Maloney?' They say he is so handsome and sexy. I tell them I see him naked every day, and I just don't see it."
The Heat had no assets? I think the Bird Rights to Wade had considerable value. Chicago, New York and New Jersey would have needed to setup Sign and Trades for Bosh, Wade and LeBron while Miami only needed to do Sign and Trades for LeBron and Bosh. Since the trio wanted to play together, Miami was already one step ahead of the other teams with the Bird Rights to Wade. Did Miami absorb and straight out buy Wade, LeBron and Bosh or did they resign Wade and trade for Bosh and Lebron? It looks like trades to me which usually requires some assets going back to the other team(s). Heat complete sign and trade for LeBron after arrival Meanwhile, behind the scenes, the Heat continued working on sign-and-trade deals for both players, which were completed long after the event ended, around 11 p.m. The Heat sent two future first-round and two second-round picks to the Cavaliers for James, while packaging two first-round picks to the Raptors for Bosh.
unfortunately we have an innjury prone center and we're not beachside (galveston doesnt count)....we're a nice place to raise a family when you're brent barry or brad miller, but young guys aren't crazy about actually living here. They like to fly in and party, play summer ball, and then leave. I think morey realized we're not a hotspot for FAs, especially big ones, as history has shown....best thing to do here is to have assets and trade for them, the hope you're winning enough to persuade them to stay/re-sign. Also, notice most of the guys we get are "good" guy types. Mostly quiet, humble, etc. Those are the guys who are most likely to stay and re-sign, they're not as money driven or in need of flashy big cities. I think Morey though bosh fit that personality, but i think he was wrong afterall.
