You misunderstood what I was trying to say. Note that I said these disgruntled Democrats. I am not referring to Democrats as a whole, but rather a faction of them. I never said that you should roll over and submit because the other candidate won. However, you should do something productive like what you suggested (working on defeating the opponent). When people b!tch and whine just for the sake of b!tching and whining and when that b!tching and whining hinders the overall cause (showing people your point of view and working to defeat the party), that's when I have a problem.

While I am not disagreeing with everything else you said, I will vehemently disagree with you about Nixon. Nixon got my vote in 1968 and 1972 and I am damn proud of my votes for Nixon (prouder than any other of the 11 presidential votes I have cast), especially considering that he was running against HHH and McGovern. If I had to do it again, I would happily vote for Nixon over HHH and Nixon over McGovern. I would do it even with my knowledge of Watergate.

it'sa pretty low bar- i doubt nixon was alone in his anti-semitiism. and i'm trying to look at his presidency as a whole. the opening of china- some of his domestic policies were fairly enlightened. as i said, i don't remember enough about HHH, but mcgovern was a p***y. that he may also have been a decent human being wouldn't necessarily have made him an effective president. carter was, apparently, a nice guy, and will go down in history as one of our worst presidents. and i voted for him...go figure.
