Yeah, I've looked... and. Dude don't even try to argue with me, you can't win, you started this dumb thread and look what everyone has to say.
No comeback needed, you made yourself look stupid when you typed in "This country is going to hell." Think before you type, after what happened today in London and what's going on in Iraq, this kind of crap is ridiculous. Soldiers are in Iraq fighting and dying for our country, but hey the country is going to hell because some kid gave you **** today.
I was given a tip via email about a past thread involving the thread starter here. I recant what I said earlier in this thread. MFW - you seem to have a lot of anger inside of you; that can't be healthy. http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=92458&page=4&pp=30
Fade, I am with you here 100%, I don't know why everyone is attacking this guy....... I agree the story could have been told without saying the race (should have been omitted) and be effective, but I do believe all that he was trying to get across is the message that today's youths have less discipline and respect for others IN GENERAL.... and that a lot of it stems to how they are brought up.
i'm sorry mfw if i gave you grief in my posts because right now...you're getting some **** that you don't deserve.
I feel really bad for the way people have been acting in this thread toward you. My advice, just don't bother looking in here again, because it's only going to tick you off more. Sorry about what the kid did, and even more sorry about what the mother didn't do. Sometimes people are just jerks, kids and adults. Who knows what factors played into it.
That's funny, I was just gonna say the same about you. Yet the tragedy in London, or the war on Iraq, neither has anything to do with the decline of mutual respect. The two are completely unrelated topics. Yet somehow it never got through your thick skull. Hey, I see a Fantastic Four Premier topic not too far below this one. HOW DARE people enjoy Fantastic Four when people are dying in London and Iraq. We should all obey your lordship.
Sorry if I appear that way Manny. My fiancee gave birth to our first son not two months ago. That kinda changes your perspective. Suddenly things you were fine with before, aren't any more. I'd rather he grow up in an environment where he's safe and where he learns some respect. Maybe Da-Glyde is right. Maybe I am getting old...
No harm done. Maybe I did overreact in certain ways. But I have to say I stand by the original intent of my message (although perhaps I could have put it more diplomatically).
Yeah ok... so what does the topic title have anything to do with "the decline of mutual respect"? This thread didn't have to be called that... How is our country going to hell, because a kid showed you no respect?
congrats! you bring up some very strong arguments - seeing as how everything you type is seemingly unrelated to the matter at the core of anything at all. hey, why the hell am i typing right now, shouldn't i be mourning? man...you gotta either sit back and relax and realize that we can only do so much - we all feel bad about the london thing and it is something that needs to be taken very seriously and respectfully - but life goes on for those fortunate enough...and we can only change the future, not the past.
I think the thread title is a bit unnecessary, but can overlook it if MFW is saying it was only meant as hyperbole. Nonetheless, I have to pretty much agree with him on his point of an increasing lack of mutual respect in the States. As a counter example, let me share something that happened to me in France last summer... So i'm jogging along the beach boardwalk in Antibes (just outside Nice) and these kids about 12-13 yrs old are playing soccer in the sand. One of the kids punts the ball and it goes out of bounds and barely brushes me in the back of the shoulder. I don't really think anything of it and just keep on jogging forward. About 50 feet further downpath, I get a tap on the arm and a "monsier". The kid who kicked the ball had actually raced from behind and caught up with me just to apologize and explain that it was an accident. Coming from the States, I was really taken aback that this kid would even care what a complete stranger would think in the first place. There have been many other such instances like this happening to me in Europe and other parts of the world as well. But it just seems like in the States, people for the most part could not care less about the guy standing next to them. Maybe it has to do with our emphasis on competition and personal achievement.
Wise words. Thank you. Unfortunately I've always had problems doing that. We'll see if that changes in the future.
How it is not related? He talks of "mutal respect", where is the respect when the title of his topic is "this country is going to hell", where is his respect to our country and to the soldiers overseas fighting and putting their life at risk for the country. But he wants to just go off and say it's going to hell, over the stupiest thing. I don't get it.
This country is more likely going to hell because of people like you. Forget what's going on in Iraq, or London. You were too much of a passive-aggressive p***y to deal with it then, so instead you ran to a message board to whine about it to a bunch of strangers. Jesus Christ, man! You don't have to be violent, or racist to demand respect from anybody. Of course it's not your job to be that kid's parent, but you come off like a total twerp when you make some grandiose and racist statement to account for one idiot's bad behavior and your hurt little feelings. You'll feel better if you confront people then and there if it bothers you so much.
OK, this thread is silly and all and I shouldn't participate and have nothing against MFW...but...the above is highly ironic considering this is a thread about declining values, parenting skills, and children. Not using my logic...just that of this thread.
