Maybe all that could be somewhat true, but really I think he just meant it should be getting more coverage than what it is/did, mostly.
Maybe the flooding is being downplayed in the news because of the potential ecological disaster that was unraveling in the Gulf and the terrorist issue in NY? The flooding is a big a deal obviously, but there's only so many people they can interview that will talk about the water rising. Only so many pictures of homes underwater before they all look alike. When they have the option to talk about a terrorist and oil that could devastate the Gulf, those things are "sexier" stories.
Welcome to D&D Mattj, it's a really fun place with nice people. It seems like I've heard quite a bit about the floods. All the news channels and the nightly news have been covering it. However, it has been a busy week for big news stories. Lets see, we've had the Wall Street/Goldman story, the oil spill story, the riots in Greece, the stock market drops 1000, The Arizona immigration reform story, the Times Square attempted bombing story. Well you see what I mean, it's been a busy news week.
I can sympathize with the OP as a lot of regional disasters haven't gotten as much coverage as they should. Having worked on disaster relief and raising money for victims of some of those disasters its pretty frustrating when it seems like something isn't getting a lot of coverage. Unfortunately a lot of that has to do with timing and location. Nashville had the misfortune of flooding with a few other major stories breaking. Its not fair but that's what happens. Also Moondog the proper meme for the D & D is:
It's been a tough day. Brian cushing suspended, my cousin sends me the wrong file..blah blah. But it was nice reading that Taylor swift donated half a mil to Nashville.http://www.thecelebritytruth.com/taylor-swift-donates-million-nashville-floods/0016483
the conservatives are making this an issue Obama doesn't care about red states, white people (we know there aren't many blacks in Tennessee) and they are just pulling themselves up by the boot straps.
Frankly, I'm getting natural disastered-ouit. Natural disasters are regional issues and should be covered as such. Haiti and the tsunami are incredible events. A flood? A mud slide? A forest fire? 5 minute blips on those events are enough. My brain can only handle so much death and destruction. I'm more focused on providing for my family. My life has never been more busy than it is right now ...yet I was still aware of the flood. What else do you need from me? Seriously. It was covered. I'm more concerned about the governments response than how much coverage it got.
