I'm about midway between Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill and Charlotte (1 and 1/2 hours to each)-- conveniently located about six miles from the interstate! Let us know more exactly when you are traveling and I'll scoop out what is going on in the area. What kind of things are you looking to do?
Really, more than anything, I just want to meet some people and check out the towns. I've been some of these places before, but like Raleigh/Durham...never been and wouldn't mind seeing the colleges and just wandering around the town, you know?
Jeff, The wife and I usually head up to the country house on the weekends, so ifin you need a place. I'm sure it would be okay for you to use our apt Friday and Saturday night in NY. Of course it's in Queens. But it's only 15 minutes to midtown on the subway. Easier to park the car too. Let me know!
Ninth Street in Durham is called The Left Bank. About ten years ago, I ran into Doug and Chris Collins having a roll at the Ninth Street Bakery. You'd probably like Chapel Hill, too. Those places are but a tad over an hour's drive from my home--- just like a trip across Houston!
Don't forget Philly -- really underrated town! As my wife is expecting in July, I might just be good for lunch or something, but I'll be happy to give you a list of sights and places for live music. If you hit Raleigh/Duram, you MUST time it so you see a Durham Bulls game. Good times.
We have a brand new stadium in downtown Greensboro -- modeled after the successful Durham Bull stadium in downtown Durham. We are the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Marlins). I have a couple of friends with company boxes; I may be able to get tickets if that is something you want to do. Of course, you can always sit with the schlubs in the bleachers. I think Bartman might be out there somewhere.
Jeff: You're more than welcome in Providence -- only a 40 minute train from Boston. And the bars and restaurants are all smoke free. I know how much you like that.
You are always welcome to stop by here in Clear Lake. I make some pretty good BBQ - we can invite over as many other BBSers as we can cram in my backyard.
Okay but turn the heat down; you don't want the tofu to crumble. Jeff's a Vegan (?)-- at any rate no meat for him, although he's happy to let others tear flesh.
Thanks so much. I'll let you know how my plans are going. That is very generous. wrath: I will be through Philly for sure. I've never seen the Liberty Bell, so I'd like to at least do a little tourist thing there. Batman: I'll definitely consider that. As far as going West. That will be for next year. I've honestly considered a trip to the northwest and down through California - Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, Bay Area, LA, San Diego, Vegas, Denver, back to Texas. But, I want to do east coast first. Then there is midwest, deep south and so on. As for Dallas, like I said, I have a few friends there and it would just be a stopover anyway.
