I have a MyTouch, and the 3G coverage is great in Houston. I think it's cheaper than most, too: 600 minutes, unlimited text and data, about $80 a month with a two-year contract. Though my phone's a year old and I'm sure something better's come along.
Well my phone does bounce back and forth from 3G to Edge, but I honestly don't notice a difference. The only time I noticed losing data access completely was standing atop a mountain in Colorado. I know TMobile doesn't have as good as coverage as Verizon, but for me it hasn't been a weak point.
Yeah that is why I drop 3G and just use what u are calling Edge. I am sure other people will not be happy with that type of performance though.
I did some research on that as I am still very satisfied with my Nokia E71, but the new smartphones just have much larger screens. I compared the Samsung Galaxy S Pro that is due to come out or has just come out on Sprint as "Samsung Epic 4G" to the HTC Evo and to the iphone 4. While the iphone seems like the sexiest, I don't like the non-support for Flash (even though Jobs is right that Flash is flawed, at least it is the one thing that always crashes my browser) and the "walled garden" philosophy of Apple, and the fact that you need a special micro-SIM. The Evo looks great, but I always like to have a keyboard. That is basically why the Galaxy S Pro comes out on top for me. Only problem is that I have no idea when, if ever, it will come out in Germany/Europe...
