Yes but I feel funny asking for help. My sorority sister told me she and her husband would throw a fundraiser to help us with wedding costs. Anyway, I am gonna try my best to keep it under 10k. My fiance showed me a website for a venue that only costs 2k for 4 hours on a Friday night (food and security not included). I think it is a good deal. I just don't want a lavish wedding that will bankrupt us but I do want a nice wedding with my big ass mexican familia. Like someone said, look for relatives/friends who can do things like cake and etc...We have his aunt down for the cake. Thanks guys...I just feel better now. I've been avoiding to think about planning because it just stresses me out but I know there are ways to save money if we are really frugal. Only reason why I said 20k is because it's the average cost for a wedding and I don't want to spend 20k. We already have a house so half of that money would be great for our honeymoon. Bora Bora, anyone?
Being frugal about a wedding is all good. As long as you love your wedding, that's all that matters. We went to the Bahamas Atlantis for our honeymoon, man it was awesome. We went there without an agenda. Just went and bummed and did whatever the whole time. You GOTTA just relax after the wedding. Just let it soak in, and enjoy it. Again, congratulations. Things will work out just fine, keep the stress level as low as possible. It's supposed to be a fun, exciting, and happy time!
no doubt my family held my sisters wedding in india (for the sake of my grandparents and his grandparents/parents) and there was about 1300 people who showed up there. More would have shown had it not been raining on and off that day. I swear my dad must have had to get a second mortgage to pay for that wedding. Had to buy saris for each of the ladies attending and even though my mom went and was able to get deals on them. Yeah I was up for about 2 days straight having to help with all the various things and the cook started making food at 8pm the night before and worked pretty much straight until the 8pm dinner time. I want nothing like that for my wedding...keep it simple please.
The best wedding i've seen was in front of City Hall. They had tents. They had symphony-ish band. I'm sure it was some socialites wedding. It was freaking awesome. I've noticed Mexicans have weddings on Fridays. That annoys me, because it's a b**** to make it. And it's always the one near Main and Airline. There is where a clutchfans member reply quote me and say, hey I got married there on a Friday at that church, or went to one on a friday at that church.
Mexican Americans are the new Irish Americans. This is why I never date Mexican/Mexican-American girls... well that and other things. Steady diet of Argentinian gals, W. European slags, and white American girls from single parent households for moi. ..oh yeah!
Check out Butlers Courtyard http://www.butlerscourtyard.com/home.htm My fiance found this place and that is where we are going to have the wedding. I think its only 9K ... I guess that is cheap compared to 20K and she has a huge a$$ Mexican family too.
Safari Texas Ranch Excellent, excellent experience. Full service Multiple ballrooms to suit your needs (our reception was in the Palm Pavilion) They (at least the woman who organized our event, sorry can't remember her name) really work with you. We had 150 guests, were able to negotiate an open bar for 2 hrs (before it went to a cash bar) and got an extra selection of appetizers. Cost around $6500. BY FAR, the best deal I found. And we looked all over Houston. Try not to sweat it; booking the reception and church (if you use a church) is the hardest part. And if you book a full service place, you don't even need to worry about the reception, aside from telling them what you want. If you need a DJ I have a friend who's really good (and I'm not just saying that because he's my friend). He did my wedding.
One of the best weddings I have ever been to (aside from my own) was probably only a few thousand bucks and had like 50-75 people. They got married in a local park and had a reception in the rec center in the park. The food was catered from the groom's favorite mexican place and the desert was from the bride's favorite pastry shop...and krispy kreme. Everyone had a GREAT time. It was one of the most heartfelt ceremonies I have ever been to. There are 3 types of weddings. The crazy big expensive ones. The tiny heartfelt ones. And the ones in the middle. No one remembers the ones in the middle (except your family). So if you can't do the expensive one and you can be happy with the small one...do the small one.
I'm going on the record that I'm here to help you. I'm worried about this stressing you out. Stress kills people. Sex relieves stress. I can help you with that.
WHOA Are those people a mix of relatives, friends and strangers?? I don't know the India culture very well but what happens if they get a divorce? That money would get wasted for nothing... Do you mean Greek Americans? Usually they have a big family.... Thanks aeroman10 & JunkYardDawg. I'll check those out. I've looked at Safari but I thought it would be expensive since it's a ranch.
My husband proposed to me in Disney World when we were on Vacation with his parents at the end of April 07' Three days later we went to the Orange County courthouse and got married. His parents were there and it nice and quite. I would not have had it any other way. We figure that 5 years down the road, we can have another ceremony and invite more family and friends. Its about the two people and the love instead of about the material things IMO.. Good Luck with whatever you decided. Marriage is def. something to be cherished.
We got married at the courthouse downtown. We were poor though. Ive been to so many nice weddings but 70 percent are divorced now. I know you want to have a nice wedding, most women do. Just think about what you could do with that money.
