Not all of us. Some of us just realize how it works and know the difference between being wealthy and being rich.
I have not bought a watch in my life because a watch is just about the only thing I don't want to skimp on. I want a really really really nice watch one day. Sunglasses - max $10. I lose things easily. I wear the Kandora/Dishdasha (arabic white robe thing) and those are almost always around $50-$70 each. That's all I wear to work, I always have a circulation of 14 kandoras and every 6-9 months I give a few away to charity and make some new ones. The rest of the time, I like comfy jeans, comfy shirt and a cap. I have no interest in buying clothing based on brand, I dont care if it's fake, branded, whatever... if it's good value, I'll buy it. Usually good value is about $30 for a pair of jeans and not more than $20 for a shirt. I spent a buttload of money on my car (plus mods) but only because it's the car I've wanted since I was 8 or 9 years old and I figured I'd rather have it at this age than later on. I'm probably going to get a hybrid next year. I don't have anything ever created by Apple. I have never spent more than $500 on a laptop/computer. I don't need top of the line to do anything. For some strange reason, I am naturally good at maintaining my computer and often find my 3 year old computer is works as well as anyone's brand new one. I never eat at hotels by choice. Reason being I love burgers, and I ordered at a hotel once and they brought me a burger the size of half my palm for $50. I smelled it for 20 minutes and shed a tear when I took a bit. It was average. I quit cigarettes because I figured I could donate the $60 a month to charity, avoid smelling like ass, and live a little longer. Recently, I've decided that I'll pay a huge premium for things made in the UAE/Dubai because I feel strongly about supporting local products, bands, artists, etc. Would not pay $100 to go to a popular artist's concert. Generally speaking, going through the thread, I'm kinda humbled. I really need to cut down more.
i'm very frugal, but i'll splurge sometimes on big ticket items. even then, i don't buy the latest model. a lot of people call me cheap but i'm happy with what i do and don't spend my money on. yet, if i were to compare my bank and savings acct with friends who make 50-80% more than me, i guarantee i'll come out on top. i don't live paycheck to paycheck like they do. they have better cars and gadgets but i have peace of mind. i don't know if i'll be rich come retirement but i'll have alot more than social security. frankly, i don't care what someone spends their money on. what irks me is they complain they don't have any money AND don't understand why.
you're missing out bruh... nice headphones are good for your ears because they more accurately re-create the sound.
Haircut. I'll try to find the cheapest place that does the same job because most of the time they never cut my hair properly no matter how much I paid for it.
this is a temporary refusal because i may someday get it fixed but right now i just don't really care to... I have a fairly large dent in my passenger door. It's ugly and unsightly, but its cosmetic and doesnt affect anything mechanically. I just feel better having that extra money in my wallet than on my door.
Sennheiser HD 202, Sennheiser PX 100 or Koss PortaPro Headphones. I own the PX 100 and it's pretty good.
thanks, but i was actually looking for really good ear buds. any suggestions for those? things i refuse to spend a lot of money on? haircut lap dance (have never paid for one, ever) latest model of electronics premium gas christmas/birthday gifts (no one really appreciates it)
Dug up the email, guy isn't selling them anymore. There's a massive thread on memory foam on Fatwallet.com- check that out.
mrdave...yes, that mrdave , posted in a thread about one of his friends who owns a mattress store. i believe a clutchfan bought from him and was really satisfied. i don't think it was tempurpedic but very comparable.
yeah, i have a pretty giant scratch that's slightly dented on my right-rear passenger door / outside the wheel well area. I'm just leaving it alone...doors work. Whatever. My car's not new and super shiny, so this'll do
yup. early on in the car's life, you pamper it. But over time and natural wear/door dings (which my car is apparently has a target on it)/scratches/etc...you just sort of go "oh well".
I've never really skimped on anything that I see you guys posting. Even in college I would purchase pretty decent groceries. I don't own sunglasses (saw that a few times) but if I did they'd probably be decent. I can't even drink Dr Thunder. I guess for me its HDTVs. I don't see the need for 1080p or the gimmick options. I can find me a solid sets for a good price and never look back. Then again, I guess I don't opt for the lower quality brand names though. Man I must be high maintenance
Actually..not really true. They may not buy a lot of stuff, but they do splurge on the things they do buy once they have the money. They save up, pay cash for a good quality item (not the cheapest) and then keep it a long, long time. They are usually happier people in general because they are more likely to be content with what they have. I guess you have to ask yourself..do you want to be content/happy with life, or do you want to constantly try to have the newest & greatest things (and always stress/worry about making it in life) interesting note - you are right that there are people who never make millions, but end up rich. the average person worth between 1-3million has never made more than $250k in one year..most of them made between $75k and $150K a year. (not bad salaries at all, but also not people we tend to think of as millionaires) The Millionaire Next Door is a fascinating read - Its basically a study on the habits of millionaires..its truly an eye opener.
