I don't pay retail for anything. I'm not cheap- I just take it to the next level. I don't buy off-brand crap most of the time, especially when it comes to electronics, shoes or mattresses. Anything you spend a lot of time with is worth spending money on for comfort. I just find a deal. Shoes- this is where you SHOULDN'T skimp. I used to buy one pair a year of brown and black at around $60-$90 bucks a pop. But you get what you pay for with shoes, and this is considered cheap in my experience. The last pair of shoes I bought were some square-toe ostrich boots at the Justin outlet in Fort Worth. Most comfortable thing I've ever worn on my feet, and still going strong 3 years later AND they look like a million bucks. I get comments on them all the time. I paid $260 for them but they've already paid for themselves in comfort and for what I would have paid for shoes over that timeframe. Mattress- another area where you shouldn't skimp. I have a nice Tempurpedic mattress that was retail around $3500, I got it for $1800. Sounds like a lot for a mattress, but I've never slept better. It's all about quality of life.
cellphones - i use 2 right now, each cost about $200 three years ago.....i throw them on the side when i go to play ball and nobody even thinks about stealing em but w/ regard to everything else listed in this thread thus far, my spending habits are frighteningly obscene
No, freaking Gold Toe It's one of those things, the prices weren't visible but as your picking stuff up you're keeping a running tab of what you think your spending as you go. The actual total was double what I figured but at checkout time I was too mesmerized by the checkout girl's breasts too make more than a passing comment about the prices, she made a comment that it was still cheaper than buying women's clothes, I should've asked her if she could show me a $60.00 bra and panty combo Anyway, 3 pack Gold Toe socks $16.00 another 3 pack, half price with the first three pack $8.00 3 pack Nike DriFit socks black $12.00 2 pack Hanes Undershirts $16.00 x 2 = $32.00 $68.00 + tax
There are two standing rules in this outfit. One, take care of your feet. Spoiler I refuse to spend a lot of money at a strip club....well, since that one time at least.
I'm about to have to buy some casual clothes, mainly jeans, for the first time in years. Mine have gradually gotten too baggy and loose as I've started working out more. I'm planning to spend a little more than my usual 'buy the cheapest thing that I like' just because I know I will wear clothes that I like forever as long as they don't wear out. I'll spend a little more on a shirt that is made with better material and will last longer. Shoes- bought my last pair online while they were on sale for $45 (reg. $80) Cars- my next 'new' car will be a 2 or 3 year old used car I rarely ever buy anything that's not a necessity, and if I do it's usually online on a deal site. The last thing I splurged on was a memory foam pillow, and that was only like $40.
The point is to have your money that you have put away earn you money. The more you put away, the more interest money you get. That's how people who don't make millions get rich, though it takes time. Instead of buying stuff all of the time, save it and it will earn money for you if you don't touch it.
Found an auction on ebay with great feedback. Guy took pictures of the serials and sent them to me. When I got the mattress, it was legit (wasn't worried with the feedback). It's been a couple of years, I'll see if I can track it down for you.
Chances are people who live like that (don't make millions, but get rich) still aren't spending any money once they've accumulated more money from interest. Once cheap, always cheap.
I think I would be more interested in seeing what people DO spend money on, as everyone as different priorities on where to spend etc etc. I like to assume that everyone on the internet just surfs slickdeals or fatwallet all day looking for the best deals hehe. The one mistake I made was buying a new car. It's nice to have a new car and everything, but from now on I'm buying used, even if its a luxury car, im going used.
