That sucks dude. My mom has worked for continental for the last 20 years and I have been stranded all over the f'in place! Buddy passes are the worst. Now that I am over 25, I have to use buddy passes if I want to travel on my mom's discount. F-that man! I just buy the tickets; plus buddy passes are a lot more expensive than they used to be.

I would imagine they did, but during the summer and all the weather that is going on. Flights are going to fill quick. I dont even try to non-rev during the summer. Its a waste of time.

not everyone takes cabs from the airport. you can use public transit and do it within 20 to 30 minutes from Newark. and you didn't factor in traffic.

You can take the A Train combined with the AirTrain to JFK and that might take you an hour tops.

agreed...Newark is nicer and a quick train ride to the city from Penn Station...

Well, I also don't like other things about Newark, for instance many of the employees are complete douchebags. I have never seen so many rude and obnoxious people work in a single place. LaGuardia is a dump, but it is by far the most convenient airport in NYC.

    UPDATE

Yes I made it home around midnight.

Route was amazingly enough ....LGA to IAH direct. Last flight out too. There were 38 standbys on the list but 24 seats open. I was 22 ..."Glyded" my way home LOL!

Yes, before I left for NYC last Wed and 1 day before flight. Flights looked good. Made it out to LGA no probs. And on Sunday, flights for IAH looked good that evening with seats open and a small standby list ....until lists for earlier standbys rolled over onto that flight. Then the trouble began...

Funny thing is, of all the years I've flown on buddy pass (fam work for CO) I've rarely missed flights. Missed a few to LGA, but never missed any to IAH ...until now.

If I missed last flight out last night, my route this morning would have been LGA > CLE > IAD > IAH. Dulles had 2 flights to IAH completely wide open and was best option home.

Would have chosen this option over EWR > IAD > IAH as LGA much closer to where I was stayin in Ozone Park and commuting through the city on a weekday morning would have been a nightmare.

Unless all your family lives in BK and Queens and doesn't want to drive to Newark. Sure I could take PATH or PA Bus into city and then hop the A or J train. But Ive always flown into LaGuardia with minimal problems. And since it's closer for me, LGA wins, unless flight to or from it look bad.

REP POINTS FOR EVERYONE that replied to this thread.
    Thanks for the help.

Some pics, courtesy of my Twitter.

    1. Pic of "The Standbys." We're like the cast of the TV show LOST, trying to find our way home. http://yfrog.com/bh4j0kj

    2. This guy Ben, he had LaGuardia trying to catch a flight to Houston for the past 2 days, just like me. He was from France and was trying to get to IAH to connect to Guatemala City. He was on standby becuase he flew AirFrance ...that didnt make sense. Sadly enough, when I left last night, he was 2 spots behind me and didnt make it. http://yfrog.com/mxuv2j

Whaaaa? You're on CO buddy passes but flying out of LGA? Wouldn't EWR be the more logical choice seeing as it's a hub for CO? I've flown into/out of LGA once, but that was before the EWR airport was really finished. It's been EWR by 2-3 subsequent visits to NYC.

    (I have a relative @ CO, too)

Those standby lists can really be stressful, though, and as a buddy pass having the SA5 pass class is terrible!

It would be but CO has alot of flights into and out of LGA, though not as much as EWR. But, the biggest point for me though is LOCATION. I've flown to all 3 airports before and honestly I'd take LGA and even JFK over EWR ...and I know Im definitely in the minority here.

But again, if EWR looks the best when checking flights, I'll fly there, no probs. But on Sunday, Monday & Tuesday, both EWR & LGA looked like ****. And so it once again came down to LOCATION. LGA FTW ...and it finally did.

Yeah, I guess I find EWR easy because you can get right into the city via train direct.

EWR probably would've had more 2-leg itineraries you could've tried, though. LGA-IAH may be just as frequent as EWR-IAH, but there are probably lots of options out of EWR since it's a hub. Not like it matters now anyway since you're home. :)
