Call and verify about Morton's, but I am almost certain that it is not open for lunch (unless they have changed that very recently). Also, if you are in Oak Brook, there is a Thai restaurant at Oakbrook Center named Baisi Thai that is absolutely awesome. If you are staying at the Renaissance or the Marriott in Oakbrook, Baisi Thai is right across the street from you.
Man, I was in Chicago for 2 weeks this past summer and really had a blast. It was incredibly fun. The only thing that sucked was my lack of an automobile. I got around everywhere on the El, which was sufficient, but I couldn't really explore the town like I'd have liked to been able to with a car. If you've never had one, try a Vienna Beef hotdog. Those things are so f'n delicious. I would recommend Demon Dogs underneath the red line stop by DePaul university, but I heard they got shut down...You can find Vienna Beef hot dogs at other places, though. Giordano's was my favorite of the local pizza places. Both their Deep Dish & Thin Crust pizza was excellent.
for the "authentic" hot dog (in chicago they're known as "red hots") visit Donald Duk's Red Hots. killer. http://chicago-hotels.tripadvisor.c...s-Donald_Duk_s_Red_Hots-Chicago_Illinois.html
?? What's wrong with Sugarland? And.. I don't intend on eating any hot dogs while I'm there. I'm a Texas "chili and cheese" dog man. Chicago and New York can keep their "let's cover the dog with cabbage and vegetables" dogs.
There's nothing wrong with Sugar Land (as a matter of fact, I was born an raised there...hence the moniker). I'm just warning you that Oak Brook is upper-middle class/extremely diverse suburbia (i.e. Sugar Land). They even have this area centered around a shopping mall with restaurants like Cheesecake Factory and P.F. Changs surrounding it, just like First Colony Mall - even the layout is the same. All I'm saying is don't spend the free time you have (other than at the hotel) in Oak Brook. Chicago is too great of a town for that.
1) Hang yourself 2) Urinate on the ivy walls of Wrigley Field 3) Repeat steps 1 and 2 (because you can obviously repeat them)
For good, authentic Chicago style pizza, you can't go wrong with Giordano's (although, I'm sure you've already heard). I also really like the pizza at Pisano's, which off Monroe & Michigan Ave (I think). I haven't been yet but a few friends have talked about a joint called the Redhead Piano Bar which is on W. Ontario. Also Kingston Mines (again, haven't been yet) supposedly has some of the best jazz/blues in town. Hope that helps.
Is Gino's that counter joint right near all the Rush & Division Bars everyone's packing into @ 4 in the morning after all the bars start shutting down. Because if so, that places is the f'n bomb diggy.
Does anyone know of a cool place to catch tomorrow's Rockets game at downtown? I'll be flying to Chicago tomorrow morning...
I'm flying into Chicago tomorrow, also. Batman, we definitely should go catch a Rocket's game! Kingston Mines!!! I forgot all about that place! I went there many years ago! it was great!
When i had friends that lived there we went to harry's velvet room a few times. It was nice, good looking women and they played good music. Don't go to a club called Buzz. I remeber hating the music, all transe with no words. There is this place called 5 faces that has awesome gyros at 4 in the am.
Well, my flight has been delayed two hours. Now we won't land until 6 pm. (Sending this message with my blackberry from within the IAH terminal). Sland and Batman - you guys want to get together and watch the game tonight? Tuesday ? Wednesday?
