Yup Trudy's. Have some good food too. Saw a fight go down there once. Ambulance came and everything. Just kept sipping on my Mexi Mart.
One of the most underrated things around Zilker. How much of the park is still closed now because of the stupid ****ing offroad bike race they had a couple of weeks ago? I would second the idea of kicking around South Congress for an afternoon, if the weather's nice. There may be some outdoor tunes at Boticcellis (sp?) or San Jose or Guerro's...then there's always the Continental and the upstairs (jazz) in the evening.
Good to hear. I've heard that it struggled to find its footing at the outset, but Paul Qui definitely has the talent to do something special.
What about breweries? My niece is coming from California to surprise my dad for his 75th and she wants to get the Austin experience, including BBQ and beer. I wanted to take her to Real Ale, but that's a little far I think.
Hops and Grain on E. 7th is supposed to be a lot of fun, as is Austin Beerworks. If you like sour beer, and the weather is nice, Jester King is wonderful. It's near Dripping Springs and they have picnic tables set up in a Hill Country setting. However, they typically only make sour Belgian-style beers.
Hit up the east side.... The transformation that's occurred there in just 4 or 5 years is nothing short or remarkable. Tons of cool bars and restaurants.
Haven't been in a while but we used to go to Hula Hut on Friday afternoons around 3:30 to get a good seat, eat chips & drink Margaritas to watch the girl parade. There were a lot of really cute girls, really glad to start their weekend,
If you're gonna visit a brewery, I'd suggest Hops & Grain or head to Jester King if it's nice out. Also hit up the ABGB (Austin Beer Garden Brewery). Other good places to eat - Contigo, East Side King, St. Phillip, If you're heading out to Dripping Springs direction at all - Pieous, Porter on South 1st is nice, pricey though, Sway, Uchi if you wanna do up Sushi.
I need to check this place out. It's walking distance from the house I bought on East 8th. It looks pretty amazing.
