Way to Andre! If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

hotter only in bed. Brooke Shields was hotter when he was dating her than Pete's wife. Andre's taste is different, I think he realized marriage is more than having sex.

this all started with the book. Sampras OVER reacted on Andre's admission about of using drugs. So that was payback time.

Servers as fancy restaurants make 100k+ a year, so don't feel too bad for them.

LOL...and how exactly do you know Sampras married his wife only for sex?

You just mentioned .05% of waiters/waitresses...so there's a lot more that dont make that much.

Also, tipping a percentage shouldnt change because of location...to say that, "oh, this guy makes good money, so I'll just tip him 9%"...they should still get what they deserve.

If so many of us favor Pete, why do you believe Andre is more beloved? It well known that Pete preferred to shine away from the limelight. I think the only thing about Andre that Pete really hates is that Andre wrote that book.

I have a feeling that Pete finds his life to be more successful then Andre's.

Tipping as a percentage is actually unfair. Takes the same effort to bring and fill water glasses as it does a soda, or bring a burger vs bringing a fillet mignon.

Yeah, but a waiter that bringing the fillet has a much tougher job because he/she deals with a completely different clientele...people with more demands, expectations, etc... Also, those working at the very high end restaurants have the menu down...know all the foods, ingredients, etc...dont need to write down orders, they just remember them, stuff like that. Plus, you have to make yourself more presentable at the nicer restaurant.

There's a big difference between waiting at a high end steakhouse and waiting at denny's.

I only wanted to say that there are people who are proud to be career waiters/servers and don't do it just because they have to, and that not all of them are in a "tough financial spot".

I also don't think waiters need charity. It's an honest profession.

Also, valets at a busy place can pocket $200 a day in tips.

You do realize that all Pete had to do was mention his drug use to win the semi-heated exchange?

Yes, I know there are waiters and valet that make good money and are content...my comments are geared towards the overwhelming majority of them that do it because of a lack of options.

And even for those few that want to be waiters/valet and make good money, they still deserve their cut. Not paying them their share should still be unacceptable.

    Why would you say that?

I actually have a ton of respect for them...thats why I dont tip less than 20%.

seems to me Pete is a very private person that doesn't appreciate Agassi trying to goad him into a public mudslinging match. if i were in pete's place, i probably would have brought up andre's drug abused problems, but he refrained from doing so. i respect him for that. he took the high road.

Totally, you could tell he was considering it at one point saying, "oh you want to talk about baggage," but must have thought better of it. Of course he did try to slam him with his serve, which was actually the best part of the whole exchange.

I agree. My wife and I like this place in ATL called The Sundial. The servers have been so amazing that I feel bad that I only tip them about $25 for the two of us. They do everything in a very timely manner all while the Seats are revolving around the kitchen, so you are never really in the same place.

The one time I valet parked, I tipped $1. It was at the PeachTree Westin in ATL(Sundial is on the 72nd floor of the Hotel). It was the only cash I had on me, as I wasn't expecting to get Valet parked. I actually apologized to the Valet guy.
