I think you're confused and mistaken.
I never said that TT would be a good coach.
Only that the Celtic's defense would suffer without him.
No body questions his defense .. His Offense is worrying but with CP3 and DW and a bit of luck it might work ..
This will surely mark the end of the Celtics run. They better cash in on this last year while they can. It's funny that you often see Thib standing up giving instructions just as much or more than Rivers ... Doc is nothing more than a motivational speaker (which is half of the battle, but it's probably the easier part of coaching to learn). Sucks that he would be coming to our division though. They will be playoff contenders for sure with that defense.
There's usually some carryover effect into next season if the last coach was a GOOD defensive coach. You saw it with the Pistons when Larry Brown left. Saw it with the Rockets when JVG left. So the Celtics might not lose THAT much, but it could be the difference between NBA Finals and 2nd round playoff loss. How about when Rudy T coached the Lakers running his offense, and the Lakers had a decent record. Then when Frank Hamblen took over with the triangle they sucked major ass. True that you cant install a different offense in the middle of the season. But (okay thats cheap credit given to Rudy), maybe it does depend on who's running it as well. Not that SL matters, but the Rockes also had great records when he coached the SL. Chris Paul would be an ass to tune out Thibodeau. He's already the complete PG package and a good defender, but if Paul can't see how he's helped Rajon Rondo become a premiere defender then the players are just spoiled babies.
he is going to improve whatever team he goes to. hopefully he turns down the hornets and ends up in the east.
doc rivers never did anything as a coach until he inherited that stacked team and one of the smartest defensive minds around
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=5243406 [rquoter]Sources: Hornets await Thibodeau By Marc Stein ESPN.com The New Orleans Hornets offered their vacant coaching job to Boston Celtics assistant Tom Thibodeau last week, but they're prepared to move on if Thibodeau has not accepted the job before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, according to sources close to the situation. Sources told ESPN.com that the Hornets don't want to let their coaching search drag beyond this week and plan to offer the job instead to Portland Trail Blazers assistant Monty Williams if Thibodeau, architect of Boston's vaunted defense, doesn't accept by Thursday. Thibodeau, however, might have other options himself. The Chicago Tribune reported on its Web site Wednesday night that Bulls executives John Paxson and Gar Forman flew to Los Angeles to formally interview Thibodeau, although the newspaper also reported that the meeting had not taken place as of nearly 11 p.m. ET. Earlier Wednesday, ESPN.com reported that Thibodeau likewise had his first interview with the New Jersey Nets earlier this week before the Celtics left Tuesday for Los Angeles. Sources say that Thibodeau's reluctance to accept the Hornets' offer -- his first head-coaching opportunity in the NBA -- stems not only from Boston's ongoing postseason obligations but from Thibodeau's desire to see how serious the Nets and Bulls are about hiring him. The Bulls have spoken informally to former Nets coach Lawrence Frank, former Timberwolves coach Kevin McHale, Rockets assistant Elston Turner and Thunder assistant Maurice Cheeks, but the Thibodeau talks will constitute their first formal interview, the Tribune reported. During Boston's Eastern Conference finals series against Orlando, Thibodeau emerged as the top choice of Hornets general manager Jeff Bower, who is close with ESPN analyst Jeff Van Gundy, perhaps Thibodeau's biggest fan in the coaching business. But rumblings persist that Hornets star Chris Paul would prefer Williams, who got his coaching start under Gregg Popovich in San Antonio before joining the Blazers. The Hornets made a formal offer to Thibodeau early last week, according to sources with knowledge of the talks. Although Thibodeau has never held a position higher in the NBA than his current role as associate head coach in Boston, his stock has never been higher thanks to the Celtics' unexpected run to the Finals as the East's No. 4 seed.[/rquoter] What kind of stunt is that? I know you're about to coach in this hugely important series, probably the most stressful couple of weeks of your life, but we can't possibly wait another day to fill our coaching vacancy even though we won't be doing much of anything that needs a coach for another month.
like JVG say hes waaaaaay overdue for a startin gig in the league, well we kno watever team he goes to will become the best defensive team hes the architect, wat will make him a great coach tho will be how good he can coach offense as we learned with JVG its good to be great on D but if u cant score comfortably u cant win
http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/nets/thibodeau_nixes_hornets_MZOGoHEnHUPrjyVCUdh9lK#ixzz0pmyImx4J Looks like he passed on the Hornets offer. Could be going to Chicago to fill their coaching vacancy.
Thibodeau to Chicago, Monty Williams to New Orleans, Avery Johnson to New Jersey, Dwayne Casey to Atlanta, Byron Scott to Cleveland? We'll see.
