I agree. With a tough PF the Rockets will come out the West. But because Yao doesn't play consistent, I can't see them advancing to the second round. The second thought is Mcgrady play is going to rise in the playoffs. This is where he wanted to be at. We might see something special from Mcgrady.

Good grief! You guys are taking all this too personal.

I love Barkley as a commentator. He creates angst, and is very funny on the show. I'm glad he's not a homer. I wish he had been in better shape when he played with us, and had been more serious about doing what it took to win another championship, but I really admired him for taking that huge pay cut to get Pippen here. As much as I enjoy Barkley the humorist, I think it was a mistake to trade for him as a player, though. We went downhill after that trade, and we'd have been better off not getting Pippen. Drexler would have stayed another couple years without his conflict with Barkley, McDeyss would have signed as our PF, since we had a good PG in Cassell, and we wouldn't have signed Maloney to that large contract. We wouldn't have signed Pippen, and without Pippen, we probably would have drafted Lewis, and not been stuck with all the post Pippen trade players. I believe we would have been in the Western Finals 96-99, and maybe won another one. (I know ... woulda, coulda, shoulda's)

I like the Rockets being an underdog. That way we can sneak up on people.

Remember, if Barkley was all for Houston, everyone would say it was because he was biased from playing here before. Since he has been critical, when it DOES come time for us to be contenders for years, He'll be able to praise the Rockets, without so much criticism.

So, I'm glad he's critical right now ... and to be honest, we deserve his criticism. We ARE soft, and we still haven't gelled to be the team we can be. But, we will, and I'm excited about our future for years to come.

Listen the "soft" label is meaningless.

It was the "I don't even count them" dis
    that shows his attitude.

Barkley is negative towards the Rockets. If you can't see he
has nothing good to say about them, well ok.

But he is not objective at all about the Rockets.
They are a good defensive team, even stat wise
and he doesn't give us any credit- zero

The discussion was who plays defense in the west, that was the context of his remarks.

The first time he calls the Rockets a serious contender this season prior to the start of the playoffs I will kiss his *** on national TV.

Chuck didn't mention the Rockets a single time when they were discussing the standings. Almost as if he refused to recognize we were even there.

I see where you're coming from with your post and agree. But this little take is hard to swallow, as what I remember most from Barkley's days here is him taking the pass at the lower left post, planting his fat ass on the defender, and dribbling up to his nose for 18-20 seconds before finishing or desperately passing it off to someone who didn't have enough time to make anything happen. Two or three years of hearing Geno calling, "backin' it in, backin' it in, backin' it in..." It was insanely boring. It sucked.

I don't think that many critics take us serious, but they will.

Charles was nowhere near the player he once was when he came here. He was FAT. He had lost a step on his quickness (due, in part, to the aforementioned FAT). He was a little more selfish with the ball. He'd have a brilliant game, and then disappear for a game or two. Oh, yeah, and he was FAT.

I was pissed, royally pissed, when this trade went down. The Rox traded almost their entire bench--one of the best in the league, for a fat prima donna on the downside of his career, in hopes of having an answer for the Sonics' big 4 (whoever that was). Cassell, Chuckie, Horry, and I forget the fourth one. Cassell and Horry both saw the finals again. Dream did not. My opinion of the trade didn't change the day after it went down, not during the season, not in retrospect, and not today. Horrible. Freaking. Trade.

Oh yeah: Sir Charles was FAT.

I'm starting to hate kenny more then ever now. Barkley will be there to say the dumbest ****. But I thought atleast Kenny would give the Rockets a bit of respect. Well no he doesn't. He just hops on Brakleys balls and backs up everything he says.

Yeah, it would be nice to see Kenny take the Rockets back on occasion. Just to have one member of national sports media not totally disrespecting us. Does he remember where he got his rings or what?

    Kenny loves the Rockets.

People b**** when Kerr is a homer. Kenny is better than that. Quit asking for handouts.

Exactly -- I have friends in Dallas that cry about him, just like we do.

It's either SA and Miami OR you are crap. There's no thought involved, he just shows up and picks everybody's frontrunner and the rest of the teams are crap.

He keeps it "real" -- real safe and real whocares.

LOL, forgot to add that there was a Chucky Brown reference on the show last night as well.

Kenny, while talking about the Laker role players mistakenly referred to Chucky Atkins as Chucky Brown. Ernie cuts in and corrects him.

Charles: "Chucky Brown?!?! Isn't he dead?"

So people actually listen to Barkley for the commentary, especially in regards to who will be a contender?

Wouldn't that be kind of analgous to asking Ken Lay for advice on how to run a company?

Both were very very successful, but ultimately failures.

I didn't say he was as good. I said he was still good. I don't care how fat he was, HE AVERAGED DOUBLE-DIGIT REBOUNDS and had a double-double all 4 seasons with the Rockets.

    1996-97 13.51rpg 19.71ppg
    1997-98 11.68rpg 15.24ppg
    1998-99 12.29rpg 16.10ppg
    1999-00 10.45rpg 14.45ppg

If being fat gets me numbers like that in the NBA when I'm in my late 30's, then I hope I turn into Jared pre-Subway.

You're being bitter pointlessly. It's one thing if you didn't like the actual trade, BUT YOU CAN'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THOSE NUMBERS right there for an aging, how did you put it(?) fat man.
