I've been pretty neutral thus far, mainly willing to give him and Watson enough of a leash to grow together.... but having him not know what to do on 4th and 4 with 11 minutes left, and down 17, was something that just screams that he's always going to be intimidated by aspects of the game itself. (Watson having to talk him in to going for it... just awful).

Andy Reid was the same way for a long time (may still be)... but had a lot more success with his teams to stomach some of the blunders.

Yes, his teams are disciplined... yes, his QB has vouched for him (although that just may be DW4's nature)... and yes, with enough weapons at his disposal, he and his talented QB can put together a dangerous enough offense (albeit inconsistently).... but there's not another level that this team is going to get to simply with a coordinator only change.

Difference in 2010 was that they had an unproven defensive coordinator trying to make it work. Also, not only was it Wade Phillips' system coming in... they hit a HR with drafting Watt, drafting Reed, signing Joseph/Manning... that was a huge talent influx to the defense.

I don't see that sort of personnel upgrade. They do need some defensive improvements... although not sure any team possess' a defense that can constistnely/fully stop this Chiefs team.

When Wade Phillips starts off with a new team, there's major improvements on defense the next season or two for that team and then it starts to fade. Bring back Wade on a two year contract!

Will Wade also be bringing rookie JJ Watt, pro bowl versions of Jonathan Joseph/Daniel Manning, talented rookie Brooks Reed, and all-pro Demeco Ryans with him as well this time?

The 2011 Texans defense had a better scheme than 2010... but was also extremely deep/talented compared to the previous year. They probably could have been even better than they actually ended up.

Phillips defense with the Rams actually improved this year in efficiency, compared to their SB season. He can still coach/impart what he knows... but much like RAC, not sure if he can design defenses well enough to stop the most dynamic offenses in today's games (of which, you're really only talking about the Chiefs).

No they won't. OBrien is who is hiring Caserio if that ends up happening.

Can we get Kubiak as a consultant? He would do wonders for Watson.

Yeah let's separate this into two issues:

    1) Fixable issues
    2) Chiefs are amazing issues

On the fixable side, they don't have any real speed rush. I've said this for years on this forum. All of their pass rush is generated by power rushing and is slow to develop. It's been very rare for them to just lighting quick blow a play up and sack the QB or collapse the pocket. That has to change. In the secondary...I mean damn man you could argue for a replacement for literally every player back there which obviously can't happen. They've just failed at fixing that back end and it's hard to fix it in one offseason.

Aside from all of that, the Chiefs are an amazing offense. Once you were up 24-0 and the Chiefs abandoned the run, the game was in danger. Our team can't hold up against passing attacks under normal circumstances. This has been true for year after year.

I honestly think Watson would be perfect in a Kubiak Zone scheme offense. Not going to happen though.

This team needs a new energy hire.

They're going to do exactly what they've done for the past six years absolutely NOTHING. Buttchin basically runs the entire operation now anyway so does anyone actually believe that he's going to fire himself? Of do you have faith that a guy who's a doppleganger for Pancakes is going to make the right decision here? This is the Houston Oilers all over again with the incompetence and dumbass stupidity of the front office on display for all to see. Buttchin will be back come fall cursing at the fans who DARE question his authority, the parking lots at NRG will be packed with tailgaters and the stands will be full of Texsheep. It's been Groundhog Day for Houston since the 60's and nothing is EVER going to change.

In order to get Caserio here the Texans are going to have to give him ALL the power it’s what he’s been wanting in NE but they have Belichick.

This is a guy in Caserio who has been Belichick right hand man for years and has done more then just front office stuff he’s actually been in the booth during games helping call the offense. Very instrument in the success that NE has had throughout these years.

I want Dabo but I can actually see a situation where we hire McDaniels first then bring in Caserio.

The transition should be easy because O’Brien and McDaniels both come from NE but McDaniels is the way better offensive mind.

Good points... however I think if you fix the rush, it makes any secondary (let alone one with a combo of size/speed that this one has) look much better. The current personnel is not 2010 inept back there. They just can't maintain coverage when the QB has literally more than 5 seconds consistently to survey and allow the WR's or TE to get open.

I also think its not just speed but schemes. The best blitzes are the ones you don't even see coming. I fully don't expect the current regime to figure that out, as they were unable to develop a consistent pass rush or unique scheme with Watt/Clowney/Mercilus all together.

Yeah. People are quick to blame our mistakes... when really you could easily look at the Chiefs literally beating themselves for the first 15 minutes.... 3rd down drops, blocked punts, muffed punt returns. They probably were feeling some initial pressure as well, playing tight.

    The Ravens were better offensively.

The Titans were a solid, but not great defense throughout the season, though better at the end.

    https://ftw.usatoday.com/2020/01/tennessee-titans-defense-stopped-baltimore-ravens-offense

Look, the Titans defenders played as good a game as they could, and they were able to generate pass rush with their lineman... but still, they had a coaching staff that had the right strategy, instilled it in them, etc.

The Chiefs ARE amazing. Indeed. Not 51 points in 3 quarters amazing. Lol. That's coaching.

Vikings just lost their OC. I’m wondering if Kubiak takes over.

Heard on the radio that out of 500 passes Watson threw during the regular season, only 18 came out of no huddle. Grant it we played a lot of close games where we may not have been in much of a hurry but BoB has always struggled with situational football whether clock management, timeouts, challenges, etc...The fact that he is even thinking about punting the ball in that situation is just mind blowing.

BOB just hired Russel Wilsons qb coach this year and hes done some things to help Watson, but butt chin is the ultimate detriment to his development and production.

i always stayed that bob is such a control freak that we don’t even have a no huddle offense... almost every snap is under 6 seconds on playclock - defenders just fire off because they know we won’t take delay of game
