I dont know why any GM would hesitate to trade with Morey and Houston. Say what you want about Morey, but when you trade with him, the other team more times than not, ends up getting something that helps them ESPECIALLY financially (how many times has he bailed out cash strapped owners... seriously...). Say what you want about Morey, but he does trade very fair. -Think about what most people here considered the biggest fleece trade he has made with the Knicks for McGrady- He gave them the opportunity to clear their books to have a chance at going after Lebron in free agency. Had Lebron chose to go to NY instead of Miami, Morey would have been the man responsible for gift wrapping them titles. That comes at a cost which in the end wasn't really that big of one when they weren't able to convey the pick swap, and the first rounder didn't turn out as great as we had hoped. -Celtics S&T with Lee- How much salary did Morey take back to get a 2nd rounder? -Camby S&T with the Knicks- How much salary did the Knicks get to walk away from....?? ^ Les Alexander ended up eating nearly 7 million dollars in salary that year from those teams... .for what???... a couple 2nd rounders in return... that's a pretty fair trade when you look at it that way. -Lowry for Pick which became Stephen Adams.... What is looking better right now???... I think its clear that Lowry is the better player who is playing at an all-star level and Adams would have been a bench backup for them behind Jonas V. If Morey ends up trading Asik & Lin I guarantee you it will be a good deal for those teams in the end. It won't look good on paper at first when they have to explain their salary to their owner, but in the end, it will be a good deal for that team.
Since when an NBA team helps out another NBA team? It's always a business world with mutual benefits.
1. He'll be as soon as he retires. Check stats 2. Minnesota sucks. Only 8 teams make the playoffs in the West, can you name one team within those possible playoff teams the Timberwolves have more talent than? Lol. Regardless, he's still the highest winning coach in Rockets history, and that's with a injury plagued roster with the highest turnover in the league.
Would much rather have an arrogant GM that tries to take advantage of other teams in trades than to have a soft GM who gets taken advantage of. Works out better for us in the long run.
Also realize how competitive the West is right now, and think of how many teams are coupled up with the Rockets in the standings. Do you think any of those teams want Morey to be able to make a deal that makes them even better to make that jump out of the middle of the contenders to top 5 contender? When this kind of stuff comes out, its probably one of these teams- -Clippers -Dallas -Memphis -OKC -SA -GSW -Phoenix -Portland Trying to play games with other GM's to try and persuade them NOT to pull a trade off that helps them out. Wouldn't shock me in the least bit if it was Dallas (the night after a loss ehhemm), Portland (who looks to not be as invincible as earlier in the season) or GS who is right there neck & neck with Houston. More than likely one of these GM's hears about Morey making a billion calls an hour and is trying to send a memo out to the league to say "Please dont help them get better than us!!"... " Morey is the devil".
Best run organizations get out of the first round every once in a while. Morey created the egg in your face situation when he announced his stupid deadline for trading Asik. Stupid inexperienced GM move. Asik is losing value buy the minute and his situation could turn out worse than Royce White as far as losing something of value for nothing. Asik is a waste of crap right now. The worst scenario, one I could not have fathomed occurred. Morey's smarter than the crowd, maybe too smart for his own good. He deserves credit for building the team we have now but those Morey lovers forget he passed on Kawhi for Morris and Larry Sanders for PPat and then there's his Royce white blunder. And now this.
Um, never said it was the only argument.'The Adelman situation is the biggest because had he stayed, we'd be considerably better than we are now. But apparently, Morey wanted to coach the team, so he hires a front man and handpicks the assistants lol. Sounds like a power trip. Like i say, really good GM, not great yet. We won't be a championship team until he stops trying to coach the damn team
My brother was in the room with Morey when the Dwight Howard trade went down, and he said after Morey knew he landed Dwight, he snap-chatted a picture of his ass and sent it to every GM in the NBA. That might have something to do with this.
Some of you people are just ridiculous: 1. No GM, even good ones, makes the very best decision 100% of the time. OKC drafted Cole Aldrich with a lotto pick. San Antonio acquired Richard Jefferson and then way overpaid him. In fact, front office people should, and often do, know that there is a decent chance that a draft pick, free agent or trade would not work out and account for the risk going into the deal. Morey does not have magical powers or an infallible analytic method that only he and no one else knows. He and the rest of the front office, however, have achieve a great deal more than the average NBA front office can be expected to achieve under the circumstances by putting in a great deal of effort. This is why he deserves accolades as one of the better GMs in the league. 2. Morey is hardly "inexperienced"-- He's been on the job for 7 years now and has made more trades than the vast majorities of front office people during this time. If there is a deal there to be made, there isn't reason to believe that Morey is not capable of finding it. 3. Why are people so upset that a trade was not made on December 20? Whatever "egg" that the Rockets have "in their face" means little to the team's fortunes. All it means is that a few internet people can whine about it. The team is still winning at a decent pace (having just finished a 10-4 January) and still has the same players and assets with which to make a deal, perhaps even something similiar to one of the deals discussed in December, come the real trade deadline.
Every single GM will make mistakes....even Jerry West. Concerning the Asik "mess", he took a calculated risk. He knew that there was a chance that Asik would complain, get hurt or not have as much trade value down the line. Just because it doesn't look like it will work out, does not mean that it wasn't well thought out. It is like playing poker, the odds may be in your favor, but you can still lose. As far as passing on Kawhi Leonard, no one always makes the right pick, and besides, in that SAME draft he got a superior player in Chandler Parsons. As far as Larry Sanders goes, how is that working in Milwaukee?

Revisionist history I see. 1) Adelman left because Morey was about to start rebuilding. We didn't have Harden, Howard or even Lin. Adelman didn't want to rebuild he wanted to win now. 2) Morey has only hand picked one assistant for McHale and that was Finch. 3) Morey made himself look stupid by drafting a guy that only McHale wanted on the team, Royce White. Real power trip huh?
