At least he made those comments after being relentlessly booed and a fan ran onto the court and tried to attack him. (probably was a Rocket fan). Rudy T also backed him up on those comments. Also, it should be noted that he was referring to the city in general that always displayed its hatred of him after refusing to go there.
So you're saying once he was provoked, he lashed out, and that is OK? Great. Then you understand my position on TMac and why it's so similar.
What is the big freakin' deal? Orlando's front office is crap. TMac went there to play in his hometown and along side another star to try to bring championships to Florida. Hill's injury or not, the Magic did NOTHING in the time he played there to improve their team or surround him with players who would help in that mission. Tired of the losing and a front office not willing to make moves to put a winner on the floor, TMac got sick of the situation and had the right to move on due to his contract status. Weisass came out a few days after the trade and bashed him, his character and his commitment. What was he supposed to do, sit back and let someone insult him in the media? Yes, the mature thing would have just not said anything and make his statements on the court, but I'm pretty sure most of us would have done the same thing. Everyone needs to relax, it is just a few heated comments on the radio and, as we all have heard and read this summer, he is determined to do ALL his talking starting in October and I for one can't wait!
Oh, excuses, excuses excuses.. bias, bias, bias... hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy... The trending tendancies that are constant in fans/devotees of Steve. Who rant on "stop bashing Steve" and "he's gone, who cares what he says in the media now", "he had flaws but who doesn't" and so on and so forth. Then, go on to do the opposite to the player, that was one of the reasons for Steve's departure. And if that weren't hypocritical enough. They go on to twist their reason for doing the exact opposite of what they preach, with different explanations that no one buys. Because, the actual hypocritical intent and action to provoke certain impressions and/or responses is so obvious. And when those that spot the obvious retort, giving similar situations involving Steve with similar actions to those that the Steve devotees pointed out to as questionable of character with T-mac. They either brush it off as "old news", or excuses such as the one pgabriel gave above. Which, is as valid and as worth noting as the excuses given by the T-mac apologists. "Steve said/did those things, because he was booed by fans" "T-mac said/did those things, because he was slandered by former management." It's just sad.
My personal opinion is this: If these comments make you not want to cheer for McGrady then just don't. It seems like some people are trying to get others to do like they are. Weisbrod, obviously, bashed Tmac after he traded him, even though, Tmac carried the franchise for the last 3 or 4 years. It just seem like some Rocket fans on the board are trying to take what he said out of context and aren't looking at how he was treated leaving Orlando. I, for one, will be cheering vehemently when the Rockets play and not care 2 licks about any of this drama. This is much too overblown.
I can't wait for basketball to start this season. Yao and T-Mac are going to be such fun to watch. Seriously - it's going to be great.
yes lets make more threads of this, how fun. ok back on topic: who gives a rat's ass what mcgrady said. If you've seen some of weisbrod's quotes, i'd bet you'd try to defend yourself too. There should be a thread about his appearance on the talk show, but using a quote from it to try and make a point is jsut plain dumb. Get over it pgabriel.
But then, when asked if it would be fair to say that McGrady is not his type of player, Weisbrod responded with a blunt, "Yes." Weisbrod also implied that McGrady's work ethic was questionable, saying that if he were to "rip the doors off the gym, get in and compete, be a part of the organization, become a better player and make others around him better," he might still be a member of the Magic. Link You can get on McGrady for acting like a spoiled brat, but this guy has a Harvard MBA and is making these comments. At the press conference for Francis, Mobley, and Cato no less! (Nevermind the fact that McGrady did in fact "rip the doors off the gym" heading straight to the gym the day of his press conference.)
Isn't Francis gone? Sometimes it is hard to tell by reading the board. Can we just move on. I promise that when most of you see TMac play, the memory of Francis will fade fast.
T-Mac is defending his turf. It is EXACTLY what he needed to do. It should be war and if this gets his jucies going, so be it. Everyone of you who thinks this is WRONG don't get it. This IS the NBA. That's how they do it. You don't like it, TUFF, but I wish Ming would get his beard going and take it out on the rest of the league after the CNT gets booted in Group play. Love that push Ming did, BTW. Good stuff.
What point did I try to make. I just posted what he said on the radio. Everyone then went into defend McGrady mode. I never brought up Francis, until Dr of Dunk did. You guys seem to be the ones who can't get over him. I didn't know it was wrong to post an interview with an athlete on the Rockets. My bad, I thought that was what this forum is for.
TMac has yet to play a single game for the Rockets and there already are people bashing him. This truly is sad.
i think deep down inside you and i, along with everyone else, know what point you were trying to make. You don't post selected quotes without a reason. Go into mcrgrady defend mode? The tone you posted in is why they went into defend mcgrady mode. you said he went on an ignorant rant. If that's what it was, fine, but don't expect people to be agreeing with you and start ragging on a cornerstone of our franchise who has yet to step foot on the court. Like i said, who gives a rat's ass what he said on the radio show about the magic.
Oh, so you know what I know deep down inside having never met me. As far as the "ignornat rant" comment, that was specifically his criticism of management on the trade, and him not understanding that contracts have to match. I would think a player would know that. Maybe not though.
oh so you posted it for no reason right? Its jsut for fun, you just found like 5 quotes so that we could discuss how good they were. I'm sure there were other quotes in his interview, but you chose those ones out of a hat right dude?
actually no, but i think we call tell by your posts in this bbs. It's not hard. Every thread you post in has PRO_FRANCIS@#$(* written all over it. Yes i'm exaggerating but guess what? so is this thread. It's a damn exagerration.
