this is from the article in the original post: Scientists have long hoped that astronauts could be based on the Moon and use water found there to drink, extract oxygen to breathe and use hydrogen as fuel. Several studies havesuggested that there could be ice in the craters around the Moon’s poles, but scientists have been unable to confirm the suspicions.

What do you say to all those conspiracy theorists that come up to you and say does the moon doesn't really exist? <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CEDMsld4aNY&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CEDMsld4aNY&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Ice, now water...Damn man-made lunar warming is melting the poles. We must stop all this wasteful human exploration and preserve the resources.
Wasteful human exploration? That makes zero sense to me. I think we need to do everything we can to explore other planets, Colonize other planets, and advance our reach in science and exploration as far as possible, before it is too late. I would argue that space exploration is THE MOST important thing we could actually do. Exploration could very well be our livelihood...imo.
I'm pretty sure water came from asteroid because they are made of ice. I don't believe there was such collision with earth. If there was such collision it probably would be before water even form on earth.
You need to watch more of Star Trek o try this: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/yHbnM_42mQE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/yHbnM_42mQE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> This is why conquering space is very important of continuing human existence.
It is a big news in the Science community. The problem is that to extract the water from the moon. You need to extra a ton of moon dirt to get a litre of water. Many probes that went to the moon probably didn't carry a special instruments to test out for water since they probably thought there wouldn't be any water and the problem is that you need to be lucky to land on the surface that hold evidence there is water. Since water is being found on the surface makes life on the moon not really possible.

I could be wrong, but I thnk the poster was being sarcastic. Yeah Astronaut Jones is awesome. Thats one of my favorite skits from Morgan. Actually that could be a huge PR move by NASA, send him to the Moon. As for the implications, it is big news. I don't find it Earh shattering by any means as far as there being life there, but who knows. The biggest thing I think is that it wold make a Lunar basr more feasable and cut down on long term costs. The idea of finding resources on the Moon is becoming more and more of a reality. On that note, the movie Moon hits on that idea and is worth checking out. As for the existence of water, there are more likelihoods elsewhere in the solar system. Europa and one of Saturn's moons, Callisto or Ganymede I think, also potentially have oceans under their surface ice. Exploring those places would be monumental! It would probably even make the papers jsut behind Kate and Jon's latest argument. The last thing is I'm not sure about water being a prereq for life. It is a must for the only model of life we know of and could be essential, I just don't like putting all of our eggs in one basket. A place like Saturn's moon Titan could do a lot to dispel that line of thought if we ever went there for in depth study. That place is very similar to Earth as far as it having liquid bodies, substantial atmosphere and similar topographical features. The big difference is that they are made up of different elements. I almost wish I were bron one hundred years later. If nothing else we know the Mooninites have something to quench their thirsts that is far surperior to our primitve Earth water.
