There is a rapidly growing animosity in our military forces toward the U.S. media.

exactly, I didn't even comment on the over-the-topness of this position. are these guys suggesting that the media doesn't report what it sees? anyone remember the statue toppling, the media has been fairly objective in this whole deal.

maybe since this war was unquestioned in the beginning, it was all liberal media trap.

Assuming the title of this thread is true and assuming the press does function as a fourth estate (admittedly, both precarious assumptions), then the question has to be asked... So what?

wow, I didn't see this thread until just now.

today I was talking to two former US soldiers who recently got back from Iraq on this very topic. They're furious with the press and the way things are portrayed over there. According to them there are TONS of positive things that don't get recorded by the press. All the media reports are the negatives, meaning the public believes that nothing good is happening over there. Awful.

I also have friends who are in the army, and there stories differ much than from the soldiers you talked too. It would help if you could tell us were the soldiers were stationed in Iraq, was it a hotspot or out in the middle of nowhere?
Iraq was a very bad decision.
What surprises me more, is that they are still sending more soldiers there, I dont understand it. (I know another friend who will be shipped off in a while.)
But I guess American lives dont really matter, when you are nowhere near the fighting.

Bigtexx, did you tell them you would join them, but it would be a waste of the bigtexx comparative advantage over their measely talents?

Sam, some time ago I extended an invitation to you to shadow me for a day. You should have taken me up on that offer - you would learn a lot, including seeing my conversations with soldiers such as these.

Unfortunately, people ARE dying everyday. Cochran couldn't even save this cooked goose.

But yes, once again it is the media's fault. Just yesterday it was the liberals fault. Tomorrow the Iraq mess will be the tree-huggers fault for driving up the cost of oil and necessitating the need for America to "secure our interests" in the middle east, right? Keep em coming guys ...your desparation is fun to watch.

What's interesting about all of this is that the Military has for a while now been censuring websites and news sources that enlisted men have been allowed to expose themselves too. It's documented that the Military is blocking "unfriendly" websites off of military computers.

So it begs the question, what media are these guys seeing that's pissing them off?

I don't recall this invitation ever being proffered. Something is rotten in the State of Denmark.

Ahh yes, I stand corrected. I offered the invitation to wnes. Let the record show that now that I've gotten to know him better, that offer is off the table.

What did you say to convince the troops you have comparative advantages over them such that they, not you, should serve to die for the country?

asking someone to follow you and see your good deeds.. isn't that a little bit hypocritical?

How about, did you volunteer for our all volunteer armed forces?

Or better yet, why didn't you volunteer and then refuse to fight?

Fighting for an illegal war? Nay.

Besides, I never claim I have 'comparative advantage' over troops.

Nothing illegal about it, but just as you claim those that support the intervention should stand by their principles and join the military (an oft heard but silly argument), so should you then join and refuse to fight, or at least stop you life and spend all your time protesting the intervention.
