    Achebe,

Here is the quote that you are thinking about:

    http://bbs.clutchcity.net/ubb/Forum7/HTML/004011-2.html

Some of the members of the Bush party were cited for being MIP. Were the members of the restaurant staff given citations for serving them? If not, why? The Chuy's on-premises permit is/was at risk in this affair and enough underage incidents looks bad to the TABC. An on-premises permit allows the establishment to serve alcohol for consumption there. An off-premises permit does not allow the consumption of alcohol in the store or even its parking lot and that is why stores will have it posted as such in the parking lot. The police will ask you to move elsewhere if they see you drinking in the parking lot of a store that has only an off-premises permit. Agree to move and the police don't bother you. If TABC was giving out tickets/citations to the Bush party, then they likely would have cited the restaurant and/or its staff. Did the manager take that into consideration?

Achebe wrote ".....You protecting her by casting aspersions on some rest. mgr protecting his or her liquor license is as ridiculous as some political pundit using Jenna to harm Dubya.

Jenna Bush was not served, so the restaurant would not have an underage incident from her. As far as her sister and others in their party being served, the restaurant called attention to its failure (underage incident(s)) by asking for a police presence. Their drinks should have been confiscated, been presented their bill for payment and the group asked to leave. No police report == no reported underage incident. If the rest. mgr was trying to protect the liquor license as you imply I am saying my goal is, then they should have told the Bush party to take a hike and forget the police.

But I also recognized after people w/ more experience in matters of calling 911, namely BK and in this thread Puedlfor, had been explicity told to call 911 in random non-emergency scenarios that I was complaining out of my ***. I suppose the same people keep ignoring that point.

The point is that the police, whether 911 status or non-emergency, are usually not called in this matter and I provided quotes to support that point and you keep ignoring those quotes.

I used the gr8-1 's experience in this area as example of what happens and you ignored it. I used Haven's experience from the bar scene and you ignored it. I used quotes from two Austin officials and you ignored them. Why can't you address those points instead of going back to Kagy's 911/police non-emergency scenario?

Most press is good for restaurants & their business, unless they appear on Marvin Zindlers' restaurant closure report and he says they have rat feces in their soda pop dispenser, or something like that.

    LOL, Tex.

The publicity better be good for Chuy's. I need Chuy's like people needed the Soup Nazi's soup on Seinfeld so many years back.

Yeah, me too. I don't care what their political leanings are. They make great, bipartisan Tex-Mex! [IMG]

Man, forget your political leanings Kagy, in a town full of thousands of Tex-Mex restaurants and you pick that one as your favorite, I know all I need to know about you.

    Sheesh.

Mango, quit tricking me into talking about a subject that I don't care about. This will be my last post on this matter.

I don't "keep ignoring those quotes" Mango. I'm just not sure that whoever called had that same experience as you in the world. I just remembered numerous times in which I've felt like I've had to plead w/ the Operator (i.e. dialing 0 when I didn't have a phone book handy) to just connect me to the Police Dept. and not to 911.

I worked in restaurants throughout college, I drink in bars. Now I'm an authority on the subject. Whatever I say is actually the uniform law. Noone deviates from this path, or else they can slapped on the hands by Mango. :p

Let me give you an example of "to call or not to call"... a month and a half ago I caught two delinquents in my enclosed parking garage (a 2 floor parking garage for my condo w/ probably ~40 stalls per floor). They were walking up to the Jetta on the other side of my storage wall as I was pulling in to my stall (the storage wall is off of the floor and I saw their legs pause when they saw me park). They immediately turned around, away from the Jetta when I parked (We had had numerous break ins/car thefts over the past 6 mos. b/c the garage door has been broken and left up).

Instead of walking to my stairwell or to the elevator(like probably 75% of the people in our building), I became a vigilante. I ducked under the storage bins and walked up behind the guys as one of the guys was putting some sort of multi-tool in his pocket.

I asked the kids(16-17) if I could help them. One of the kids, shaking, pulled out some bs form and said that they were trying to collect money for a school contest. I told him bull****, there was no reason for them being in our garage, and I knew exactly what they were up to. I then proceeded to bore them w/ my life story and my bouts of delinquency(stealing a car, you know, the std. routine) and that they should change now. I then walked them to the garage door and calmy told them to stay the **** out of our garage.

Let me make the "oh so pertinent" point right now, that had I done what most of the mgmt. wanted me to do, I would have called 911. I chose a separate path. If it were our HOA pres. Barb or her partner Joe, let me assure you that they would have called 911(911 isn't the point of my story here, just that police involvement at a rest. or whatever depends on the vigilance of the host).

Why didn't you concern yourself w/ BK or Pued's 911 experience? Just kidding, don't answer that. I don't really care.

I am curious though, Mr. Stickler, why don't you just go to Chuy's and cite the waiter or whomever in the same way in which you would harrass a new poster on this site? [IMG]

Hell, if you ask nicely, maybe the cops will let you go along for a few rides. Maybe they'll turn the sirens on.

If you would have called 911 on the two gentlemen in the garage area, you would have had to been able to detain them until the police arrived. Unless you had some advantage over them, its doubtful that you could restrain both.

The rest of it is just going over the same ground already discussed.

    Have a nice day.

I think Hula Hut has some pretty sweet Tex-Mex. And where does Trudy's fall in this line of discussion?

But is Hula Hut really considered Tex-Mex? I'm not a big fan of Trudy's either.

Hula Hut has some fine traditional Tex-Mex dishes. Yes, you can ruin your fajitas by getting them with pineapples, but you can also go the standard route. Plus, the margaritas are quality.

Hula Hut is Polynesian Tex-Mex. I think it is part of the Chuy's chain.

Of course, this would only be a good analogy if the Bush twins attempt to purchase alcohol was the first time this particular manager/server was confronted with the issue of someone trying to use a fake ID to purchase alcohol. If this particular manager/server was often confronted with such attempts to buy alcohol from other people and did not call the police and the American-Statesman but chose to change the usual, established routine in the Bush case, then it's not really the same as your experience (unless you've previously called 911 when confronted with many similar instances in your garage but chose not to this time).

Achebe the Vigilante has a nice ring to it. I feel sorry for those kids having to learn about your STD routine though. [IMG]

In Austin, the best place I remeber for Mexican food is El Azteca (east side, traditional, not Tex-Mex). Also, El Arroyo (centrally located on 5th) has great margaritas and good Tex-Mex if I recall. Chuys and Baby O's are not bad (OK), Trudy's is bad IMO.

In Houston you have better choices (La Mexicana, Orginal Ninfa's or Doneraki's, Cafe Noche, etc.).
