Mixed.....I have heard he has only donated $75,000, and that it was set up by his agent as a way to get him some PR points.

But, he still donated, so fine...that doesn't make him any less of a phony, does it?

I'm curious, how do you see all these things he is doing at the Vipers events?

His brother is far more credible than Tmac is.....heck, the President of Iran is more credible than Tracy.

Even Bagdad Bob has more credibility.......

I never can understand why people want players' autographs.

McG's Darfur work has been ongoing since 2007. I remember learning about the "3 Points" documentary from then. Donation(s?) aside, he's been dedicating his time to humanitarian causes from back when Houstonians still adored him.

Wait what? He went to Darfur and took a camera crew for a documentary, on his ONE trip there?

    Shocking !

Still, I give him a little credit for trying to help, even if his agent set it all up.

As a guy being a jerk, but not an indictment of his entire character. The world doesn't exist in black and white. The couple of times I met Clyde, he was a complete ass. I don't think he is a bad guy though. I probably just ran into him on bad days.

And I'd like to see how quickly other players just volunteer to put their lives on the line traveling to Darfur refugee camps and living in tents there. I don't care who your agent is, that's going way farther than any legit PR stunt requires. It's certainly not for me to judge what the man does with his money and I'm not going to ignore his work with the Boys and Girls Club, Tracy McGrady Foundation, or Stand up for Darfur, because of the way I perceive the amount of $75,000

He has strengths and weaknesses, and plenty of flaws. As a Rockets fan, I just want him to perform on the court and not be a distraction. I really could care less about anything else because it's not for me to judge or really care about.

For example, last year I was PISSED at the way he allowed that dunk against Toronto and generally seemed lazy on the court, but that was it. i wasn't like a lot of you guys, criticizing everything the man says, how he donates to charity, signs autographs, promotes himself... I just want him to get on the court and put forth effort. If he does that this season he's cool with me.

So mcgrady is using f bombs and the only guy that hears is a guys brother? They say believe half of what u see and none of what u hear. I'm not calling a guy a liar, but this doesn't even sound right. This is artest or a guy that will do crazy things. I know u already have ur mind made up, so nothing more needs to be said.

I saw brooks, lowry, and mcgrady barhopping saturday night on 17th street in mcallen. Me and my cousin which are huge rockets fans couldnt stop laughing at the fact that nobody knew who they were. They figured they were just some of the basketball players at the local university. Tmac did have a few people following him, but that was just because its not everyday you see a tall guy with a chauffeur around town. Lowry and Brooks were amazing, very humble. Didnt get a chance to talk to mcgrady though.

    Astro,

I respect your take, but at some point a man makes a decision that enough is enough.

And I have personally had enough of Tracy McGrady and his house of cards.

I don't care anymore, I see him as a phony and the sooner he is exiled from my favorite team for a half eaten bag of doritos the better the team will be, IMO.

I view him as a cancer, a guy who screws up chemistry, who has wasted his talent by just putting more effort into being TMac, than being a winner.

We may not agree....and your rope is longer than mine, fair enough, but a man's character is revealed when there is nothing to gain from a good deed.

This to me is just another case of him being a weak minded arse.

Dude, read that again and think about how sh!tty you sound. You don't like a basketball player, and you're going so far as to criticize the man's charity work for people in a war torn region who REALLY needed it and the recognition it brought, to prove your point. No matter what Tmac's motivation was (and everything you're saying is just conjecture), that's messed up.

LOL - typical, losing an argument make it about the poster rather than the facts.

Weak, you are better than that....

I think if he was truly worried about them he would have donated more than a half of a games paycheck.

Whatever, I feel for the people in Darfur, and give Tmac props for bringing attention to that area.....what has his foundation done for those people?

Built a school? A hospital, what?

There's no basis here for the McGrady bashing. The fact that one fan recalled McGrady saying "I'm ready to leave" (the same fan also said he was a nice guy) shouldn't be enough to provoke these kinds of comments. I mean, come on, there could be any number of reasons he said he was ready to leave. It's taken totally out of context. If you want to bash him for other things he's said and done, fine, but you've got nothing to go on here. Give the guy a break.

Actually yes. He funded the construction of a secondary (high) school, the training of its teachers, and provided a year's worth of supplies. He also heped set up an alliance between schools in the U.S. and sister schools over there. You can read more about it at http://www.darfurdreamteam.org/

While I'm not sold on McGrady being a liar or a complete fake, I fail to see how his charitable work relates to the unnecessary comments he made at a lame event.

I had a chance to meet a majority of the team during a Jazz series. I had cordial conversation with J. Howard, Novak, Alston, Head, Hayes, Yao, Deke, and others. Out of all of them, TMac was the one who refused to autograph or associate with anyone in the crowd. I was very put off by his me-first attitude, and I'm sure he is one of the more egotistical players you'll find.

That being said, sometimes you have to realize how mundane and difficult it must be to face thousands of people screaming at you for various reasons and demanding that you sign your name on their possessions, even though they don't really know you or anything real about you, except that you play basketball well. It's probably pretty damn annoying. To me, signing an autograph for a kid, a special needs person, or the like would be very meaningful because I could meet them and make them happy - but if, like TMac, I was sitting somewhere and got handed a random ball and was told "sign this", I'd get a little frustrated too. I would think 'what am I, a dog to do tricks for people?' It would be a faceless, frustrating task.

So, the point? I can understand why he is selfish. I don't appreciate it, but I understand it enough to just let it go. Applying it to whether he is a good teammate or whether his charitable work is valid just proves that you have a TMac agenda, IMO.
