i'm glad you're back dude. at least, despite your darkside anger, you have some facts. You aren't telling me that Tmac-in-Orlando > Shaq-in-Orlando or any of this non sense. I figure Maxwell threads have the following 50%-good memories posts, 49%-personal life posts, and 1%-people still angry about 95. and the 1% has been missing for along time, its like the only people who knew about this period were people who watched the dvds or nbatv classics. its all good. Paper: HOUSTON CHRONICLE Date: FRI 03/01/1996 Section: Sports Page: 1 Edition: 3 STAR ""My boys Sam (Cassell) and Mario (Elie) will come back, and the Rockets will still be tough in the playoffs," Max said. ""I'm all right. I'm showing people I can play again. I liked the reaction from the crowd tonight. They remember me."
I don't want to talk about Maxwell-in-Philly. How about some good memories to offset the Billy Graham sermons. Paper: HOUSTON CHRONICLE Date: FRI 01/29/1993 Section: Sports Page: 1 Edition: 3 STAR A case of perfect matchups Then, of course, there is Vernon Maxwell versus Michael Jordan, a.k.a. the Main Event. These two have mixed it up more times than Ali and Frazier -- this time out was no exception. "I'm not looking to start anything when I play Jordan," Maxwell said. "But I do come to the game with kind of an attitude. You can ask my wife how I am around the house all day. She knows not to talk to me." Just the way Jordan must know that eventually Mad Max is going to take off the gloves and mix it up. Thursday, there were just under three minutes left in the second quarter when Pippen was called for an offensive foul. A shoving match broke out between Horry and Grant on the right side of the basket, then Maxwell and Jordan engaged on the left side. "I've got a lot of respect for him," Maxwell said. "I admire the guy's game, and we would have never had a problem. But I was trying to box out, and he grabbed me around the throat and slammed me onto the floor. I'm not putting up with that. Not from him. Not from anybody." As in the past, they squared off. As in the past, they yelled and pointed. As in the past, His Airness claimed it was no big deal. "A few X-rated words," Jordan said. "Nothing really heated." No? "I told him I would break his ... neck," said Maxwell. "I told him I would take him down. He told me I was trying to get the crowd involved, and I said, "Yeah? Well, do that again and I'll break your ... neck.' " Jordan would prefer to downplay these incidents, saying they are not distractions. But he did respond seconds later by ramming home an alley oop dunk from Pippen and hanging on the rim long enough to point at Maxwell and taunt him. And then he did shoot just 12-for-27, finishing with 26 points, a half-dozen below his average. Call it coincidence. Call it matchups. "I'd like to play them every night," Maxwell said.
I know Max has a checkered record in life outside of basketball, but I can't help but remember the pleasure he gave me playing for the Rockets. Yes, he drove a lot of us crazy with his inconsistency, but when Max was on, he was on at an All Star level. His battles with Jordan were epic and deserve to remain in the folklore of Rockets history. He's one of the reasons we would have matched up so well against Jordan's Bulls, had we ever had that chance in the Finals. Don't think that Bulls team didn't feel some measure of relief that we weren't able to make it, either.
Hey Tinman, CrazyJoeDavola wins the argument: Vernon Maxwell has (so far) been a despicable human being. Pointing out all the bad things Jeffrey Dahmer and Ted Bundy did doesn't make Chrales Manson's acts any less horrendous. Pointing out that Charles Manson was an insirational speaker and an artist doesn't erase the fact that he is a despicable person. Your citation to a bunch of old articles is unpersuasive weighed against Maxwell's criminal record and documented failure at being a father. I bet you money that Vernon would agree he's been a despicable loser thus far. Hopefully, he'll change for the better.
I guess some of you people go on clutchfans GARM to NOT talk about basketball. I didn't know the GARM was the place for the moral police.
You started the thread (again), yet you're surprised by some poster's reactions? Maxwell was greatly responsible for title #1. He quit on the Rockets during the run for #2. He, since then, has become nothing but a piece of s***. Such is life.
I guess we do. And, you would be included in that category as well, having contrinuted 20+ posts about the exact same issue. Vernon was an awesome player. Vernon was NOT an awesome person. You apparently cannot appreciate the dichotomy. Hence this endless thread.
Moral policeman, can you save us ? can you tell me what luis scola is doing now? I believe this article, which the maxwell haters haven't read is mainly about his playing days. I'll contribute 1 billion+ posts to balance you haters out. so do some more moral policing. Its 12am, why isn't Yao at his house?
I can save you some time with this advice: Let it go. Free throws. He's at Carnegie Deli wrapping his knee in corned beef in preparation for tonight's game.
Not with this specific article, but this is not exactly your first thread on the subject of Vernon Maxwell's "greatness". Yet, without fail, you are surprised by the fact that some of us have no respect for Maxwell, championship or not.
Sorry mr moral policeman, I'm going to post new articles when i see fit. last time i saw you weren't an officer in this clutchfans bbs or even a 99er. I only answer to them. I know the rules to this place and I know this article has not been posted before. your hate for Max ain't shutting this thread down pal.
then tell the moderators, report me officer. send me to guantanimo bay of Clutchfans for this illegal activity. i'm waiting for you to shut this thread down then. I'm not surprised. I already told you, a basketball article on Maxwell is 50% good memories and 49% moral evangelists judging people
This is the subject of the article writted by E. Spencer Kyte. Some of you need to go back to Kaplan and learn what SUBJECT means.
Post all the new articles you like. Just don't cite to them ALL every time someone mentions Mad Max. We get it. You think Mad Max is Gandhi. But, understand: People will disagree with you. You shouldn't attack them personally for doing so. It only highlights the weakness of your argument.
the weakness of the argument is people not talking about the subject of the posted article. basketball. how many mad max articles have been posted this year or last? I've posted more Tmac posts than anything else. And I don't care about what Tmac's personal life either. I try to stay on subject about his current play or how he played in Orlando.
Not to belabor this, but you were the person responsible for derailing this thread from its subject. See post 7 (by YOU): "As far as who is crazier, Ron vs Vernon. for being more 'gangsta' it would be Vernon. Then, CrazyJoeDavola chimed in and it became a Tinman post-fest. 90 posts later, you attack me as a "moral policeman" and blame me for derailing the thread. This thread is officially dead, but you killed it.
dude, if you took that comparison to ron as an open discussion to bash max then fine. yeah so what's wrong with saying the word 'gangsta'? Maxwell has long been known to live like a rapper, party, and listen to tupac. big freaking deal. as far as crazy, no one really argued why Ron randomly decided to take time off the Pacers to promote his music company. that randomness is what i consider crazy. what he did in detroit wasn't crazy, someone threw a beer on him. it wasn't randomly provoked. I didn't kill this thread, I could have never posted anything but the first post, and the moral police would come in and stop me from watching R rated movies.
My point is that you should not get all high and mighty on us that we are digressing from the SUBJECT of the thread (which you now say is basketball) when you are the one that changed the SUBJECT 92 posts ago. signing off...
ron artest leaving indiana cause he wanted to promote rap records was a basketball matter cause he was still part of the team. the article did mention them both as 'crazy'. and to the rest that i posted, its usually good basketball things about vernon and wishing him well. tinman -never signing off on the heroes of clutch city! as tupac would say, keep ya head up max!
