The Yao quote that was blown way out of proportion

    Mods, feel free to merge this thread with any of the existing threads with my apologies. But I feel that given this madness, people need to read the original source and judge for themselves.

    This is where the Yao quote came from. He said that his recovery was going very well and will be back in October. And then he said if his foot still have problem he might retire.

    We have known all along that his injury is going to take a long time to recover. He might not fully recover until the next season is well under way. He has said himself that the progress has been very well. In my understanding what he says is simply the worst case scenario, that if something happens again to that foot, or the healing process slows or stops once the pressure of the real games kicks in, then obviously retirement will be a serious option that he will have to consider. He was simply stating the facts, especially right after he said that the rehab has been going well. It's not like he was saying he was going to retire before even testing his reconstructed foot on a basketball court.
