I nominate this as the ultimate low rating.

I will stay away from any food that sucks balls.

    Well, then, let me revise:

    Berryhill's tamales just sucked.

    Taco Milagro's food sucked balls.

If Taco Milagro's food sucks balls, then I wish some of the ladies at happy hour were on Taco Milagro's menu!!

You bbs'ers sure do have high standards when it comes to food. I like that, I have high standards myself. One thing I dislike is when a friend raves about a resteraunt and when you go there, the food is subpar/not up to your standards.

Houston is a brutal restaurant market. There is a LOT of restaurant competition here, so a restaurant must either excel or die.

You got that right. Thats why I have hated going to other markets. They definitely do not match up.

Agree, agree, agree. The overall level of service provided by the food service industry in Houston far outshines any other city that I have been in. The biggest difference is the wait staff.

Houston has the best restaurants of any city I've been to, overall. In Austin, for example, I honestly think that a restaurant could have a cute name, atmosphere, and good strong drinks, and they could serve dog food out of fancy bowls and everyone would love it. (El Mercado and County Line come to mind.)

I'm surprised this thread went as long as it did without a mention of Marco's.

BTW, thanks for all the recommendations.....coming to Houston for 2 weeks in July and I need some new places to check out.

    agreed.

don't they have good ritas as well? not that it matters much since i'm not a rita fan at all. trudy's in Austin has a pretty good mexican martini - $6.75 for a whole shaker full (fills the martini glass at least 5 times).

    but tequila aint my bag.

if i want really good Mexican food, i'll go home and let my mom cook me some. that lady makes the best damn chilaquiles(?) in the world. my grandfather cooks the best mexican food i've ever had, especially his tamales.

for Tex-Mex, i go 'sitos all the way. still the best, IMO.

I haven't read the whole thread, but I don't know if anyone mentioned this old chinese food place on highway 6 and Addicks Clodine in the early 90's called Wok of Art. The food was terrible and the letters on their sign had their name run together in all caps:

    WOKOFART - it was fitting
