Realizing how good the rockets are now with battier and Hayes and Head supporting T-mac and Yao, that game7 loss is still bitter for me, and gets nastier every time I see T-mac limp around as a shell of his former self.

I called my buddy in Pittsburgh during halftime and said "I'll be there next weekend" - so I helped the Buffalo jinx.

After the Montana game I got so wasted that I blacked out the entire night and apparently started a fight at 8.0s.

    Those two destroyed me.

probably the bills game has to be the worst, but personally it's the stockton/malone bearhug game. it's funny how EVERYONE describes that as a bearhug even without hearing it from someone else.

It's unfreaking believable that so many people think the Oilers choke at Buffalo was the worst moment in Houston sports history.

It was the freaking AFC Wildcard Game on the road in cold weather. Who knows whether the Oilers would have gotten past the Divisional and Championship rounds. The Renfro no catch cost us the AFC Championship and the Oilers only trip to the Super Bowl. The KC choke at home with the Buddy 46 D was worse.

IMO the Astros losing to the Mets in '86 and UH losing to NC State are much worse than the Buffalo choke.

It was the worst, because it was the largest embarassment.

The fact that the apparently "lesser" Buffalo team still managed to get to the Super Bowl is what hurts. The road was paved for the Oilers that year.

Infamous Renfro No Catch against Steelers in AFC Championship

Gotta be. This started the cycle of near misses in the City of Houston... :(

By your reasoning (which I agree with) the Astros 1980 loss to the Phillies was worse than the Astros loss to the Mets. Had the Astros held on to beat the Phillies (up 3 in the 8th), they would have definitely made the World Series. Had they held on to beat the Mets in 1986, they still would have had to win one more game. Even though Scott was pitching, it was not a sure thing.

You're right. I meant 1980. I was too young to remember (not even born in 80) but I have heard the Astros were on the brink of the World Series one of those years. The Buffalo choke is nothing compared to it.

Did Kelly come back or did Reich play until the Super Bowl? Reich adds to the embarassment.

I will agree Buffalo is the most embarassing cause it is the biggest collapse in playoff history. On pure hurt, I still gotta go with the Astros 1980, Oilers 1980, and Cougars 1983. Championships were on the line.

I understand your POV on this, but in all honesty there have been so many that they all should come with their separate categories. Like Hooters hot wings. :D Mild, regular, hot, 3 mile island & bentley.

Bentley qualifiers: 80 oilers & astros championship runs though wasnt here. Honorable mention: 99 Astros and 94 KC not so Masterpiece & the 93 Buffalo Massacre. Reason, it didnt matter if it was WC or Divisional playoff game only. The fact was a backup freakin QB spearheaded, overcame and took the lead before the Oilers managed to wake up and tie to send to OT. They blew a 32 pt lead, greatest NFL playoff choke in history! Potentially, we could have had a Texas Super Bowl that year.

So yes, it WAS a big deal! I was over in Somalia at the time and I STILL had to hear about it from a guy in my unit from the Buffalo-area. Great! Thanks alot, Oilers!!! Even in another country, I had to hear about it! Already on the heels of Captain Comeback Elway the previous year. I Came home and watched the tape, I couldnt believe it then and I have a hard time believing it now. But hey, it's the perfect face, the perfect picture for the always disappointing, gut wrenching, all talent and no heart Oilers at least for the late 80s to 90s. That's why I dont miss them. They broke my freakin heart more times than I could count. They were masochists at creating playoff disasters and they were masters at their craft.
