I called my Dad at halftime and we were just gloating and asking eachother who we would play next week etc. Then when Bubba McDowell ran that INT back for a TD at the beginning of the 3rd quarter to make it 35-3, I called him again. I think I may have jinxed them.
no i jinxed them. along with my father, i had about 5 friends over. i looked over to one right after the mcdowell INT and said, "the oilers can't even choke up a lead like this, right??" it's my fault. i've always felt responsible. freeing to finally get that off my chest.
Wrong. It's my brother who had to race over to our house at halftime because he couldn't watch the blowout alone.
The Oilers Bills has to be the worst right now. In a few years, it will be passing on Vince Young after we watch him winning it for Bud Adams.
Ugh. Personally: Buffalo G-dam-muhfuhin-mets NCSt Renfro Joe F'ing Montana '97 WCF Walt F'ing Weiss Jim F'ing Leyritz Don't remember much of the '80 NLCS. If I did, that would be up there. The asshats on 790 are talking about Buffalo right now. Lopez didn't know what the score was when the comeback started. 38-3 was his guess.
The 'Stros losses in '80 and '86 were both worse than the Braves loss. NC State was shocking but the Buffalo game is by far the worst. Max, you're definitely off the hook. I remember after the interception TD return my phone started ringing. One of my roommates warned me not to pick it up. I did anyway and another friend was crowing SUPER BOWL on the other end. We know what happened next. Damn him.
The Oilers collapse made me sick to my stomach. The NC State collapse made me want to blow my brains out.
The worst moment in Houston sports history was when the capitalist,Bud Adams, announced he was leaving houston and taking our team with him.I felt sick that day,the event would change my life forever......I was 15
the worst momoent will be when the super bowl comes back to houston and Vince Young wins it in overtime for the titans. While the texans are worried about tanking for the #1 one pick.
I can't stand people like this. There probably isn't a worse type of 'fan' in all of sports. Cowards like this won't stand behind their teams because it's safe to naysay their team; if they're right, they get to say 'I told you so', but there is no harm in being wrong.
he was right. he stood behind his team. he just knew what was coming. that man absolutely loved the houston oilers. seriously...lay off my dad. cowards??? YOU GUYS ARE SO DRAMATIC ABOUT BEING SPORTS FANS. what a joke.
Yeah, that was right up there for me too. The reason I didn't list it is because, at the time, I was in complete denial. I still remember where I was when I heard the news on 740...driving on Eldridge near Grant Rd on the way home from work. When I heard it, I thought there was NO WAY Bud would move the team. Something was going to happen and the Oilers would stay. Of course, now we know that wasn't the case.
This might just me personally but I thought that 'Stros loss in 99 was epically awful. The Stros had won game 1 knocking out Greg Maddux only to lose it in extra innings in the next game. I recall the Stros had the bases loaded in the 10th and just couldn't do it. That's why the 18 inning game 4 of the 2005 NLDS was so great. It washed out the taste of the extra inning losses in the '86 and '99.
