I dont see how this applies to the political forum....this doesnt seem to be about race, religion, or war.....just bad service. So....... WRONG FORUM CASE CLOSED.
No kidding. I might leave some pocket change if I get a couple glasses of water, which is free, but certainly not after I've paid those exorbitant prices $tarbuck$ has for their coffee. Actually, I never know why I bother going to $tarbuck$ anyway. Not only is their coffee way over-priced, but its also freaking horrible. (<--I'm referring to just plain 'ol coffee here. Not that double-mocha-coffee-frappa-dappa-chino-whatever the hell its called stuff.)
Well, I did say waiter , didn't I, ima?? RM95, If they can't hear that is one thing but I have seen plenty of times (mainly at Applebee's), waiters crouching down for no reason at all other than they think it will help them get a better tip.
I find it pretty funny, in this difficult time for the Bush administration, that Jorge has resorted to b****ing about waitresses. He tried to start this thread in the Hangout, but I guess the mods probably move any thread started by Jorge into the D&D. What's next? treeman on traffic laws? johnheath (aka all those other users he apparently was before being banned) on homework? Don't you guys like talking bout Iraq any more? I kind of miss being told, in no uncertain terms, what a treasonous ass I am for questioning my government. Jorge? tree? t4? DaDa? You guys left just when it was getting fun. We miss you!
You are a treasonous ass for questioning your government. Oh saw your name in yesterday's Zest section of the Chron.
I understand that losing a liquor license means putting you out of business, but was it really necessary to embarass my g/f and my grandfather over one tiny sip? If the waiter would've been cool about it and not made a scene ratting on me to his manager, who then made a bigger scene, I would've left him a tip. How does not liking to be embarassed in front of a Friday night crowd at your local eatery because of a simple sip make me an *******? How does one sip constitute the pulling of a liquor license? Ridiculous. I was mad about being embarassed in front of the whole place, not because he said something about my g/f drinking my margarita. The waiter got what he deserved for embarassing me in front of the whole restaurant.
It was a hole in the wall and the waiter made a really big scene about it as well. There was no national office to call. I just wanted things to be handled quietly. One word and I would've made sure it didn't happen again. I understand that these alcohol control boards have become the modern Gestapo, but all I ask besides a tall ship and a star to steer her by is a little respect and courtesy. The waiter and his manager both berated us at length about what was a single sip and thus, the waiter got screwed. Needless to say, my family has never returned to that place and never will. If only I knew the name of it......but guys, seriously, it was back in 1996 when I was in the Marines! The place might be gone by now.
Note to self: considering how many waiters/waitresses (or used to be) post on this board, never disparage this line of work again!
I was in England at this very crowded bar and after waiting for a while the barmaid served me a beer. I paid for the beer and gave her a 1 pound tip (just like you'd give a waiter here a dollar tip for your beer). She said that I gave her too much and tried to give me the pound back. I told her that it was for her but she didn't understand. I told her that I was from the U.S. and that's what we did - tipped the bar people when they served us. She replied that it must be quite expensive and still wanted to give me the pound back. I told her to just keep this tip as it was "a custom back in my country" and she did. Everytime I went back to the bar I never had to wait for service! The tip worked exactly as it was supposed to.
You should observe the customs of other cultures when there not the other way around. Should foreign visitors who don't tip in their home country be exempt from it when here?
I think generally, that's true. However, I don't really feel that necessarily has to be the case as long as it's not a negative. outlaw, would you mind sending me an e-mail to blake@corp.swirve.com ? I can't find your's and I wanted to ask you a question.
Well, Maggiano's is one of the largest traffic restaurants there is (#2 overall in Atlanta). Every time I've been there (twice) the portions are overpriced and entirerly too big and the service decent at best. Funny story 'bout the meatballs though... A few years ago my family ate at the Houston Bread Company in Rice Village (later Atl Bead Co, and now something else). Well, after about 10 minutes, they FINALLY brought our food. My dad ordered the egg salad sandwich. When he complained that it was too small and overpriced, they appologized and came over with...a cookie. He then got pissed that they would offer him a cookie and not another sandwich. The whole place was silent. Classic.
Actually it sounds like T_J doesn't get the waitress's bland style of flirting. "I'm ignoring you" or whatever she said, the hand on the shoulder, the extra meatballs, etc. She thought you were hot. Obvious flirting. Happens often to the person at the table that presents the attitude of the ring leader. Perhaps she thought you the bank roll type... since you answered on behalf of the table... Perhaps also she thought that you thought she was hot, and she played you.... Either way, if you go off as "fuming" to any wait staff at the outset of the meal, you're asking for a "treat" on your plate. Maybe you just went to dinner in a poopie mood, she picked up on it, and served you poopie. And dude, restaurants are allowed to run out of certain meals. 20 minutes just passed because a certain number of Lasagna orders hit at the same time, and they probably figured they had enough but just ran out. Otherwise, as we are well aware, we were not there. Your perception is yours. Your opinion is yours. And why share it with us other than to harm this restaurant's business in the future? Who cares in the long run? The waitress will probably not be fired, yet praised for handling this foul characteristic of yours without bothering the management with another... ROOKIE.
A few years ago, my father went for vacation in China. I couldn't remember the name of that place. Not the most developed part of China though. He and his friends dined at a local restaurant, and wanted to give some tip to all the nice waitresses (probably came from the local villages) there. But they wouldn't take it, no matter how. My father was quite surprised, and asked for the manager. Upon my father's insistence, the manager had to "ask" the waitresses to accept the tip. Eventually, they took it. Then the manager went back to the kitchen and brought out somemore food for my father and co, to return the favor (of the tip).
