Honestly, I would have been shocked if White had played these first two games, nor would it surprise me if he continues to ride the bench. I hope chairs don't give him anxiety attacks.
Its just aggravating. Everything was going good. All the guy had to do was find a way to McAllen for camp. Truthfully i don't blame anyone in the organzation. I blame Royce for using his condition for a soapbox moment.
McHale is doing exactly what he should do. Show White that comments suggesting that the beginning of training camp isn't important and that there are other things than basketball are not conducive to building something positive and working hard. White needs someone to set limits with him and not pamper him, and that's what McHale is doing. Personally, I'm glad that the Rox have a no-nonsense coach because that's exactly what White needs.
So him having a condition is him being a drama queen? Its his job the Rockets knew what they were getting into by drafting him. Also McHale was the one supposedly who was high on him, so McHale wants him there and wants him to play. It could legitimately be for him to catch up on conditioning and learning some plays.
Since you agree with the punishment that White has received so far, how many more games do you feel White should sit? Two more games, ten more games, half the season?
In this case everyone was being a drama queen. Nothing about his condition was stopping him from getting to McAllen.
Royce just needs to keep his head down and improve on his conditioning. Morey will force Kevin's hand soon enough about playing time.
Oh, the irony. Starting yet one more Royce White thread to draw attention to your thoughts on Royce White allegedly having a "soapbox moment."
The funny thing is while watching Royce's 1st practice, i didn't notice him lagging behind everyone else or anything like that. As a matter of fact he was the 1st one down the court sometimes. This is why i think the conditioning excuse is bs.
I'm not the coach and I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I trust McHale to show leadership and to establish the right culture for the team. And none of us know if it is truly punishment or something else.
A reasonable message; particularly in view of the separation factor. i expect Royce White to be the Bentley of this class.
basketball isn't everything. royce should take a year or two off to reflect on his station in life, to ponder what can lie ahead in the ocean of human endeavors for an eclectic young squire such as hisself. maybe take up an apprenticeship working with blind children or commence choreographing the humpty dance part deux. the nba will still be here when he feels like the time is right.
Most likely, he has displayed enough knowledge of the team plays and schemes. This is pre-season but it isn't a game of pick up basketball, the coaches expect you to work within the team game to know what sort of plays or where you should be when on defense. I'd be surprised if he didn't play in the next game but, it makes sense that after only five days, he wouldn't see the floor even on the fifth day when everyone else had more days to actually execute the plays the coaches want run.
Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it McHale who pushed for R.White pick. R.White's coach at Iowa State was on Mchale's staff in Minn. R.White would have fallen to late 1st or early second round. I am sure McHale wants to be proven right with the pick, especially since he was a GM in Minn.
