Tim Duncan doesn't fatigue as the game goes on like Yao does. You can't just play Yao under 30 min a game in the regular season and suddenly bump him to 40+ min in the playoffs. He'll have problems with that.
As long as we limit Yaos minutes and increase them gradually in the second half of the season heading towards march and April, then I think we will be fine. I am excited as a fan to see how everything unfolds from now-start of next sesason, I am sure Morey will not let us down.
pop is smart with his player, he rest tim when the game is unimportant or that he know he is going to win that game without him.
What is needed is a better first option imo, yao can't get the ball at the end of games due to fronting, which is why I think it's very important to get another elite player to play alongside him.
Winning multiple championships will get you the benefit of the doubt and a sense of confidence that you'll produce when the team needs it the most. Yao has not proven that like Duncan has. The way Pops treats Duncan is not an automatic that it will work with Yao is my point. The one solace we can get from this season is that we can play without Yao for an extended period of time like when he goes down for his annual injury bug.
QFT, especially the first line. Doesn't everyone see how much the quality of center position has somewhat declined this year, more so than recent years, because of two players? One who recently retired (and still sounds like cookie monster), and one who is trying to fix his bad left foot.
The same people who are waiting for Yao are the same people who Predicted that this lineup would get off too a fast start then fade once other teams played into shape and realized Houston's gameplan Didn't get overly hyped about trade rumors Know that missing the playoff is better than losing in the first round See that a good off-season move is better longterm than a terrible mid-season trade executed to placate crybabies, noobs and 14 year old keyboard jocks In short anyone with a brain who knows ball on this BBS Asking "what am I missing in the "When Yao gets back next season???" is like posting

Just a hunch, but I calculate Yao's return at about 50%. It is far from a sure thing. He is under contract, yes, BUT there are many factors at play: his health, his finances, his family, his possible desire to remain in China, his business interests, etc. I think the situation is complex. He could start working out on the foot and the surgery could fail, I think that would end his career. Not trying to be Debbie Downer, but there is a huge downside to his situation. When the injury occurred I just had this strong impression that it was "over." Hope I am wrong.
Looking at Yao Ming Stats... You are so correct... He is the best center in Basketball for the 2009 - 2010 season.
Chris Kaman is on the all-star team. Chris Kaman! I'm not even going to say anything about Yao....just give it some thought.
I wonder if any words were exchanged between him and Gasol in the locker room after Kaman said Gasol didn't deserve to be there.
When both are healthy then there is no denying that Yao is the best center by far. Of course Dwight is the best this year but only because Yao is injured.
Well until Yao can get healthy (which is rare) and step back out on the floor to show us what he has left in the tank then this arguement should not come up at all. This is like saying T-mac is better than the top 5 or 10 scorers in the league when healthy (which is rare).... Well the same goes for him when he can step back on the floor and show that he is... then that arguement should not come up.
you are missing that Yao is Yao. He's huge and talented? Also his foot is being reconstructed stronger than ever. hopefully he stopped drinking the Chinese milk!
Well he isnt very mobile to begin with. all he has to do is stand in the low post and shoot some turnarounds and hooks draw some double teams and he will make this team much much better. on the defensive end, he just has to camp in the key and be an intimitaton factor, plus he doesnt usually jump around for rebounds anyways. in conclusion, Yao's mobility isn't a huge factor on his effectiveness, im not saying this injury wont decrease his efficiency but it def wont have a big enough impact on his game that he will start sucking.
There is not a single GM in their right mind that would take yao over dhoward at this point even if dhoward has no post up game. Yao is always hurt and at this point I doubt he gets healthier.
I was watching a Cleveland Cavaliers game the other day and the announcers pointed out how Shaq was still able to recieve a lob pass and score. The lob pass is what made Shaq effective in the 4quarter during his prime years, because it meant that fronting him too much could lead to easy baskets. Fronting Yao was always a problem for the Rockets because he could never catch a lob pass and finish, and I don't think things will get much better once he tries to play next season. Teams will be more aggresive with how they guard Yao and will force him to move around on defense.
