harden needs a pg that can attack the basket, and distribute the ball to others on the team to get them going. lin is the perfect pg next to harden. think of it this way - if you have a three point specialist like curry as the other guard, and all he does is shoot threes, where is harden going to get his 20 shots a game? and who's going to make sure the others on the team get their touches and get going? you're now making harden the pg, and take away his gift in scoring? the rockets' offense is so effective because the guards are great passers. when they get around 20 assists/game between the two of them, very good things happen. you've got all starting five getting double digits in points and everyone is happy. if you take away lin's ability to generate shots for other, you're essentially asking harden to increase his assists and sustain his scoring at the same time. harden is a very talented offensive player that is also a good passer. on any possession, he's looking to score first, then move the ball if nothing is there (something taking a little than we'd like to do that latter). We need him to do that - he's a very prolific scorer. But we also need another guard that look to distribute the ball first to others involved.
a point guard who's also a pure shooter uh..... that makes total sense. And i thought all along the main responsibility of a PG is pass first shoot 2nd. look, everyone's gonna adjust in order to improve chemistry, not just lin.
I really think its Mchale green lighting Harden to do too much, and it doesn't even look like him or the staff are even helping him figure out different plays or sets when he is trying to put it all on his shoulders with ISO. This isn't veiled comment to give lin the ball or parsons or anyone else, just to not dump it all on Harden in a 1v3, 1v4 situation and dish out at the last second with a pass that could be a TO or forcing another teammate to shoot a low percentage shot.
people will laugh at you but i completely agree. top 5 sg, top 10 c, top 15 pg, top 10 sf... all IMHO of course, but we have serious talent on this team. i understand they want to give player a lot of freedom within a certain set of confines. that's a good strategy for a young team playing together in year one. next year i'd expect the roles to be defined a little bit more.
Harden tries to fill up the stats of a super star in each game which prevents him from learning new skills on the floor, and it doesn't last very long before starting to hurt his body and his team.
Agreed. He could have improved during the season had he cared less about making 25pt per game and practiced new tricks.
I've read a few of your posts on Harden. Just to clarify, you're saying: 1. Harden is not a star player but a product of McHale "trying" to make him a star. 2. Harden is more concerned about his stats than improving his game. 3. Harden, by order of McHale, ignores his team mates to pad his stats. I've come to expect this kind of drivel on other forums. I'm quite disappointed to see it here.
