    Agreed.
In any case, we know we didn't have a chance with Lakers (with Bynum back) without RonRon. With RonRon, it is not a sure thing (but what is other than death and taxes), but we sure have hell better chance than before.

I honestly don't care if we are the 1st seed or the 8th seed in the playoffs next year. Homecourt advantage isn't as significant as it used to be. I don't mind flying under the radar and then thumping all challengers in May and June.

This team should make the regular season more fun. I see our win total at a little over 60. You really don't mind watching the Rockets lose like 30 games in the season, or struggle to stay in the playoff race in a stacked conference, then finally steal the last spot by one game?
I'd rather watch them crush every team every night!

Lets get another win streak going.

Preferably one that carries into well into June! ;)

    Riiiiiiiight...

1982: Terry Teagle could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

1985: Steve Harris could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

1986: Buck Johnson could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

1988: Derrick Chievous could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

1997: Rodrick Rhodes could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

1998: Bryce Drew could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

2002: Bostjan Nachbar could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

2003: Malick Badiane could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

2005: Luther Head could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

2006: Steve Novak could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

2007: Aaron Brooks could turn out to be something special, and if it happens I'd be kicking myself.

Guess what? Ron Artest is ALREADY special. No need to wait and see if he'll eventually become a halfway-decent NBA player -- he's already among the best at what he does.

    I'll take already-here over maybe-later any day.

I wasn't elaborate in my post, and I apologize. Allow me to clarify. With the way the west was won last year, teams were so tightly packed together that one loss could drop you 3-4 spots in the standings. They were basically cluster @&*^ing each other. This year, a 55+ win team could potentially net a seeding in the lower half of the playoffs. Thats what I meant by not caring if we were 1st or 8th.

But I'm in agreement with you. I'd rather see us roll everyone.

    Yao > Bynum
    Scola < Gasol
    Artest > Odom
    Mac < Kobe
    Alston = Fisher

    Bench

    Rox = Lakers

to me, we still aren't better than the Lakers, but they aren't better than us. should be interesting to see what happens in the playoffs. we just need to stay healthy.

Gasol isn't the weaklink. if anything, him and kobe are the only one's that showed up against boston.

it's best to get the first seed and put that first round drama out of the window by sweeping the 8th seed. and it's always best to play at home (as you saw how the celtics got by the first 2 series). yes HC is not as significant, but it's always better to have homecourt.

we've already won 55 games with 45 missed games by yao and tracy. i won't be surprised if we win 60-65 games next yr ala the celtics last yr.

See I would argue that Gasol was the biggest disappointment against Boston. For someone who was expected to perform when it mattered his finals series was disgusting. The amount of times his "soft" play cost the lakers in that series was unbelievable.

he was going up against KG, who obviously is a better player, one of the best defenders in the league, i agree with you on Gasol being soft, but not their weaklink.

i'd have say Odom was the biggest disappointment. not Gasol. I can't stand them, but they will be better with Bynum in the lineup. their bigger, and Gasol moves back to the 4, with Odom and Radman playing both the 3 / 4. where we are quicker at the 3, they are taller.

gettting artest brings us up to the same level with boston and lakers, maybe makes us better than san antonio. but definitely top 5.

Actually, the bench is where the Rockets would have an advantage over the Lakers since they lost Turiaf. A bench of Battier/Artest, Landry, Brooks, Deke, Dorsey and anyone from Novak to Head to Francis is deeper and more versatile than any in the league. We can go small, go with a bunch of shooters, play lock-down defense, or go out and run. We'll see how it comes together, but the Rockets have the pieces to get it done.

Agreed. Lakers are pretty soft compared to other elites in the league. Body up Gasol and he crumbles. Having two great defenders man up Kobe is going to be a nightmare. Against a physical team Kobe isn't exactly a peak performer either if the Finals are any indication. Go against a tough Celtics team and he struggles. Go against a tough Piston team and he struggles as well.

The Rockets are easily as physical and defensive minded as the above two teams so I'd expect Kobe to have similar struggles. Bynum I think is a product of feeding off Kobe though he is talented. I am baffled though by Lakers fans who say that Bynum is equal or better than Yao when Bynum had a solid 6 weeks with a double double for the first time in his career, yet Yao has been a 20 & 10 guy for consecutive seasons now, and despite that still doesn't get the recognition of being 1st team All NBA. It's mind boggling.

I think the Rockets have the physical upper hand against any team out there, and it'll play favorably for them in the playoffs. Fatigue takes its toll in a 7 game series especially against a physical team that has 3 all stars that can defer to each other and get longer breaks on the bench to recover.

Naturally this is to the benefit of Yao and McGrady who tend to be tired come postseason. Yao averaging less than 35 mpg will help his conditioning but also less at risk for injury. The same is true for McGrady.

I will agree with one skeptic however. If either Yao or McGrady goes down for an extended period of time, I could easily see Artest trying to move up a spot on offense as either the number 1 or 2 scorer on the team even when Yao or McGrady come back. That would be the only chemistry issue I'd worry about. The benefit of Adelman's offense though is when its running on full cylinders there really is no dominant 1 or 2 option on offense.

Of all the teams to worry about most I think it will be the Celtics assuming we run into them in the Finals. We improved even more on defense with two stoppers, but the Celtics were still the #1 defensive team in the league, and still have the big 3. One loss that I think will hurt them more than they could anticipate is the loss of Posey.

Whatever the others say...Let's focus on one thing:

It will be much worse if any other play-off teams got Ron-Ron instead of us.

dude, I try to be as respectful as possible, but ur reasoning doesn't make any frekin sense. Basketball is a team game but not an individual one-on-one match.
