Who did Edwards mention? Where? In the article that started the thread? He doesn't mention anybody. This is the only quote I have: "I've seen it with my own eyes," Edwards said. "I've had people talk to me about it at football games. There was just a feeling that people were waiting for something to be done about it." how does this constitute evidence of an involuntarily gyrating parent/child that exhausted their other remedies necessitating legislative intervention, as you implicated? I don't have to say he's lying, he doesn't say anything about it. i don't see any Dallas Morning News anywhere either. Where oh were are the involuntary gyrators?
Clearly Hayes, you should always have a lead plaintiff, fully briefed and ready to be cross-examined before you comment about harm that may, or may not have occurred to a class of people. Unless you can present such an individual, AND she can fully support your claims after cross-examination there could not have been any such harm, and your entire argument has been a fabrication. The determination as to whether she is a satisfactory representative of such harm, or that such harm occurred, or that if such harm did occur, it was as a result of the alleged gyrations is to be at the sole discretion of Fisher & Co. You should apologize, forthwith for your insinuation that this proposed legislation was anything more than yet another example of the Religious Right's stranglehold of the legislature. Further, you should commit to attending sensitivity training at an appropriate venue (Treasures?) so that you may have a better understanding of the nuances of dance and the artistic merits thereof. Attendance by your daughter is optional.
You know school kids are getting pretty fat these days and juvenlie diabetes and other obesity related diseases are increasing. Obviously local enforcement isn't doing anything about it so the state has to step in. I'm going to demand that my state rep stop working on the budget and focus on protecting my kids from candybars.
Have those parents that those parents who don't like it could just not attend football games and keep their kids off of the the cheerleading squad. It sounds to me that a small group of parents want to dictate what kind of school dance squads can perform throughout Texas.
interesting isn't it He is a great Man too Responsible for making my Favorite Holiday a State Holiday [unless I am mistaken] Rocket River JUNETEENTH!
No, I don't. If I was writing the legislation then I might. I can offer parents referenced both by Edwards and by the Dallas Morning News article (from the day before yesterday - which I've referenced several times) as proof that the situation is occuring. That is certainly enough proof for this freaking bbs, lol. If you or sam want to try and find ANY reference to say that its not occuring, that no children are being instructed to act out routines with inappropriate sexual content, be my guest. As it stands I have referenced an outside source and neither of you have. Clearly, lol. Although facing Sam in court is hardly a scary picture. That was my original point. A parents choice ought not to be either to let their child act out such a routine or keep them off the squad. Even with this legislation a small group of parents won't be dictating policy, they'll just have another forum to express their concerns if they don't feel they've enough influence to affect change with the instructor.
LOL. Could you imagine the scene of Samuel in court? "The defense would like to motion to adjourn. I must defend my political party's honor on a Houston Rockets message board. In addition, I haven't played my X-box in a couple of hours!"
I've got to admit it's not nearly as intimidating a scene as you trying to put me behind the wheel of a Dodge Neon with 57,000 miles on it.
Ha, I just got the Daily show thing on this which was classic - and I finally got the empirical evidence I was badgering old Haysie for that I guess he was too busy to get me, apparently Rep. Edwards claimed that there was a correlation between sexy cheerleading and "the herpes and the AIDS"; The sad part is I'm not kidding.
Talk about community standard, hey, wasn't lynching widely accepted and practiced in most Southern communities during late 1800s and first half of 1900s?
People who want to impose more restrictions on civil liberties often use "community standards" as their excuses. Well more often than not community standards are no less than stereotypes and prejudices in disguise - in other words, they ain't worth ****!
Why do you think I think they are comparable? What I did say is "community standard", innocent it may seem, can be execrable. In the past it was used to justify racism and hatred. Now there are those I-am-holier-than-thou moral highgrounders seek to legislate morality.
I think, maybe, we are on the same side of this argument. But I'm so distracted by your lynching analogy I can't be sure.
Um, let me ask you a question. Between the father and the son, Colin and Michael Powell, which one do you think has done things that have more impact on your life?
