If Pietrus is going to take 3 years, and Jason is poised for a breakout year, why would there not be room for both of them? Seems like the perfect situation to have both of them, Richardson to start while Pietrus learns the ropes. j
Two years ago Fortson averaged almost a 12 boards per game in less than 30 minutes per game. When was the last time we had a player approach 12 boards per? 00-01 GSW 6 6 33.8 .580 .000 .778 4.80 11.50 16.30 .8 .33 .00 1.67 3.70 16.7 01-02 GSW 77 76 28.8 .428 .250 .795 3.80 7.90 11.70 1.6 .57 .22 2.08 3.30 11.2 02-03 GSW 17 0 13.1 .370 .000 .655 1.60 2.60 4.30 .7 .53 .00 .88 2.50 3.
the numbers that stand out to me are 6, 77 and 17. GS has been trying to trade him for years, man, and hasn't found any takers so that should tell you something. Anyway, to trade for him and his big contract you have to give up a big contract as both teams are over the cap. What's the point of that for either team? If anything, GS would have to take back longer term contracts than Fortsons. They might as well just suck up his numbers than lock themselves into paying Cato or Taylor or whoever for even longer.
Numbers in 02'-03' are deceiving as Golden State put Fortson on the bench the entire season despite his being fully healthy 10 games into the season. I watched several Warriors games early on just to see what the story with Fortson was and the word was that he just hadn't been around during trading camp and had lost his playing time to Dampier and Foyle. The Golden State announcers seemed as baffled by Golden State's decision not to play Fortson more as I still am. I think there's more going on in that situation than Sam Fisher described. The only numbers that stand out to me when I look at Fortson's stat line are his 12 boards a game when he was getting playing time in 01-02. I would also note that Fortson averaged closer to 15 boards a game in the 30 to 40 games he played in 1999 or 2000 before going on the injured list. The Rockets do not have one single player that can give you 10 boards a game. Here's a guy that could give you that at a cheap price. I'm sure you'll say something about Fortson not being a very good post defender. Well good rebounding power forwards that play good defense cost money and if you've read Feigan's article this morning, the Van Gundy Rockets don't sound like they plan on being very aggressive in free agency as far as going after the big names goes.
Deuce, even assuming that Fortson still has anything left in the tank besides the years and millions or so left on his contract.and can contribute anything of value, I say again, who the hell would we trade for him to get him? The warriors and rockets are over the salary cap, they have to take back as much salary as they give. meaning a Taylor or Norris or Cato or another bad contract has to be involved(rice makes too much for a 1 for 1 swap). They've been trying unsuccessfully to unload fortson because he sits around and takes up salary space. Why would they warriors do that and then take up even more space with a Norris/Taylor type player? Fortsons name has been tossed about as available for a long time. The warriors would give him away to be rid of his contract, but undersized powerforwards who get injured and have bad contracts are not a hot commodity. There's a reason why he didn't play last year.
You may have a point as I don't know the details of Fortson's contract, but I don't remember Golden State ever giving big money to Fortson. I'll check it out though.
Sam Fisher, I checked out Real GM and it appears that Fortson makes a lot more money than I thought he did (from trying a couple random trades involving Fortson). I couldn't find any information on his actual salary numbers though. Is this kind of information posted anywhere on the web?
Patricias basketball stuff site should have it, though sometimes it seems like patricias basketball and real gm have conflicting data.
What about getting rid of Cato for Bob Sura, then sign a veteran like Campbell for some of the MLE? Sura has 1 yr on his contract while Cato has 3 more. Next after this season, we get Sura and Rice off the books. Dampier and Foyle are in the last yr of their contracts and could come off the books while Cato could fill that spot for the next couple of yrs. Sura could fill both guards spots for a yr and eliminate the need to play Moochie Norris.
The rox have always been rumored to have an interest in Sura, although I think that may have always been a Rudy thing.
MoT, Moochie, Cat for J-Rich and Fortson. Then a Cato,Griffen and Rice for Sheed and Anderson. I love the trades being thrown out, likely that at least maybe one will be strongly considered and persuded by the Rocks. Francis/ Anderson Richardson/ Hawkins Posey/Nachbar Wallace/Fortson Ming/Collier BIG SPLASH
I was hoping we would draft Welsch instead of Boki last year. I think he will end up being a good player.
Well considering the fact that he tried to sue the Rockets for playing eminem songs when he was attempting free-throws, I just don't see Les doing this deal. Plus thats a stupid deal. I would not want to trade Cato for anything right now, hes just too valuable in the West. Now change Cato with Mooch and it works for both sides
You think they'd accept Sura for Mo? If they would, I'd package Rice and Moochie to Miami for Brian Grant. Yeah, Grant makes a lot of money for 4 more years, but he's the perfect PF compliment to Yao, a tough defender and great rebounder who doesn't take alot of shots. I'd then see if Charlie Ward would bite on the veteran minimum, and I'd be extremely happy with the offseason. PG- Francis/Ward SG- Mobley/Sura/Hawkins SF-Posey/Boki PF-Grant/Griffin/Badiane C-Yao/Cato/Badiane Looks pretty good to me.
