Meghan McCain says she believes President Donald Trump has backed off his personal attacks against her father, Sen. John McCain, and revealed that she had a conversation with Trump about her dad's cancer diagnosis."I don't think he has obviously attacked him in a while, but when the news came out that he was, like apparently, allegedly making physical mockeries of my father's war injuries ... I was deeply hurt by it," McCain, a host on ABC's "The View," told Politico's "Women Rule" podcast. McCain said that when Trump called her after her father was diagnosed with brain cancer last year, she was assured to believe he wouldn't make those kinds of remarks again. "I don't believe he would go there again," she said. "I don't think at this point in his administration it would be beneficial to him in any way."

Trump is the least-traveled president since Reagan: USA Today

A new study by USA Today found that President Trump is the least-traveled president since Ronald Reagan. The USA Today study, released Thursday, shows that Trump has visited less of the United States at this point in his presidency than any president since Reagan, who left office in 1989.
"He seems to be traveling a lot, but so much of it seems to be traveling to second homes," Brendan Doherty, a political science professor at the U.S. Naval Academy who tracks presidential travel, told USA Today.

His most-visited state is Pennsylvania, where he is expected to make his fifth trip this weekend for a Pittsburgh campaign rally. He also likes to travel to “safe” red states like Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. "He seems to like to go places where he's already very popular or is likely to get a raucous welcome," Doherty said. In the U.S., Trump has only spent one night of his presidency at a hotel he didn’t own, USA Today reported.

Trump has spent 60 days visiting states thus far in his presidency. By comparison, George W. Bush spent the most time of any president in other states — 112 days — in the same time frame. Reagan and Jimmy Carter both spent only 32 days in other states during the first 14 months of their presidencies.
Barack Obama spent 77 days in other states, Bill Clinton spent 82 days visiting states and George H.W. Bush spent 73 days visiting states at this point in their respective presidencies.

President Trump would be able to dispatch Secret Service agents to polling places nationwide during a federal election, a vast expansion of executive authority, if a provision in a Homeland Security reauthorization bill remains intact. The rider has prompted outrage from more than a dozen top elections officials around the country, including Secretary of State William F. Galvin of Massachusetts, a Democrat, who says he is worried that it could be used to intimidate voters and said there is “no basis” for providing Trump with this new authority.The provision alarming him and others is a rider attached to legislation that would re-authorize the Department of Homeland Security. The legislation already cleared the House of Representatives with bipartisan support.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs didn’t include the measure in the version of the bill it approved this week, according to Ben Voelkel, a spokesman for Senator Ron Johnson, who chairs the Senate committee. The full Senate must still approve the bill, and then the two versions of the legislation would need to be reconciled before going to the president for approval. The White House didn’t respond to a question about the measure.

Hillary Clinton narrowly won New Hampshire’s four electoral college points. Trump touting ‘space force’ puts Air Force in awkward spot

A day after U.S. President Donald Trump proposed the creation of a separate military ‘space force,’ top Air Force leaders who previously opposed such an idea downplayed the apparent disconnect. Saying his National Security Strategy “recognizes that space is a war-fighting domain, just like the land, air and sea,” Trump said at a Marine Corps base in San Diego, California, on Tuesday that he’s considering “a space force” that would be the equivalent of the Air Force, Army and Navy. “You know, I was saying it the other day — because we are doing a tremendous amount of work in space — I said: ‘Maybe we need a new force,’ ” Trump said. “We’ll call it ‘Space Force.’ And I was not really serious. Then I said: ‘What a great idea.’ Maybe we’ll have to do that. That could happen. That could be the big breaking story.”

The remarks put the Air Force in an awkward spot. The White House, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis and Air Force leaders lobbied against the idea last year when it was proposed in the 2018 National Defense Authorization Act that a Space Corps be carved out of the Air Force. Ultimately the bill passed with language requiring the Pentagon to order an independent study on the issue, due by the end of this year. Opponents argue the measure would create unneeded bureaucracy, while proponents argue the Air Force’s lack of focus on its space mission has allowed Russia and China to pose a threat to America’s vital satellites. Two lead proponents — House Armed Services Strategic Forces Subcommittee Chairman Mike Rogers, R-Ala., and ranking member Jim Cooper, D-Tenn. — have both vowed to continue to the fight.

Kay Granger, R-Texas, reminded Goldfein and Air Force Secretary Heather Wilson of their opposition and asked them to explain. “I want to know your understanding of the current policy is, how you interpret the president’s remarks,” Granger said, asking that they “please reiterate your reasons for opposing this idea.”Wilson directed lawmakers toward the 2019 defense budget request and left the part about her opposition unanswered. “As the president said yesterday, the new National Defense Strategy for space recognizes that space is a war-fighting domain,” Wilson said. “We appreciate the president and the vice president’s leadership on space. Nowhere is the president’s leadership more clear than the president’s budget.”

He's not completely insane here, he's just totally misguided.

We, as a world, need to do something about all of the flotsam and jetsam orbiting the earth preparing to **** up our satellites and whatnot. If he wants to fight that, sounds like a wonderful idea to me.
