The extent of the race divide in this country amazes me. I'm not going to defend the audience for booing the humane society guy, that was embarrassing but people really don't understand the emotional attachment black fans have to mike vick

its beyond football. mike vick is not just a black quarterback, he's a black quarterback from an environment that a lot of these black people are from. he grew up in a single family home in a rough neighborhood. he goes on to be star quarterback in the nfl. and the people who root for him see him as one of them. if it comes down to dogs and mike vick, it ain't even close. these people come from crack infested neighborhoods, they see young black kids killing each other everyday so when someone makes it out that environment they love him. they don't give a crap about dogs.

vick isn't only a quarterback, he's unconventional. that's part of his appeal also, it all plays into the attraction and the love they have for the guy.

on another topic that has nothing to do with race. i thought it was interesting that terrrance mathis said he witnessed a dog fight when he was young and it terrified him. the nfl is a violent sport. i also don't see how anyone could watch dogs kill each other, but one thing we see in the nfl is that these players get involved in violent crimes all to often. I think it is something to be said about these guys needing a fix off the field. its a violent sport. i was watching the mon night game and my friends and I were commenting on the way the titans were just manhandling the saints. it was scary. I wonder if its hard for some of these guys to turn that off, off the field

    Pgab,

I think a lot of people do understand it, but that doesn't matter, what he did was wrong, and he deserves to be tossed into the clink and his NFL career taken away.

And all those people that are on his side will see what can happen to ANYONE if they break the law.

Maybe next time, someone comes from a similar background, they will decide that it is better to obey the law than to rage against the man.

Mike Vick will do good by showing people what an idiot does when they fail to grow up and obey the law.

Hey, maybe he can share a jail cell with his brother.....

Did anyone hear the radio show host from Atlanta on 790 this morning? I didn't catch his name, but he was a part of this panel. He said he was threatened by some in the crowd who said he needed to watch his back on the way to his car. He's challenged six of the people in the audience to IQ tests after they got on him for calling them dumb. If he loses, he's donating $1,000 to charity.

There was one radio host - a white guy...Neal Boortz?

    The other panelists were:

    Terrance Mathis
Chuck Smith (?) - former player for Falcons
    White female columnist from NYT
    Black male columnist from AJC

This country is very very very different depending on what region you're in. The blind love african americans from the Atlanta ghettos give Mike Vick isn't shared here in D.C. The racial divide is great in some places, but not so much in others.
