This is ancient history now. With the way Morey flips assets, none of the guys you listed would still be with us now anyway. It's time to move on to why Morey didn't manage to get Rondo.

 

A big mistake was avoid by that vetoed trade. Then we will not have Harden, and Howard. Harden is only 24 years old. Gasol is 30 or 34 years old.

Its tough to speculate if the Rox had been better or not, I mean look at what happened afterwards Harden trade, DHoward signing, WCF appearance etc.

Then again a lineup of Nene and Gasol is no joke, that would've shredded the league and knowing Morey he would flip all his other guys to sign a 3rd star in the deadline or offseason. Rox would have a starting lineup of Gasol/Nene/(good) Parsons/Courtney Lee/Lowry...that's a defensive masterpiece tbh.

I think the nixed trade set the Rockets back, Morey just seized another opportunity that came up. Stern gave him lemons, Morey made lemonade.

Exactly, you have to just tweak a team just a little bit, if most of the players already have chemistry.

Bring in too many new players and you're talking about 4 plus years of adjustments.

Impact on the League
This is the season when the Pelicans (then the Hornets) first tried to trade Chris Paul to the Lakers, had it vetoed by league commissioner David Stern, and then rerouted him to the Clippers. That trade would have handicapped New Orleans for years with mediocrity. KMart, Scola and Dragic would have made that team 42 win 9th seed for a while
